Title: just sheared the star drive nut on the EGR valve
Post by: Plomien on 16 May 2009, 17:02:27
took the EGR off as it needed a clean after being advised it was causing the eml light to come on occasionally.
sorted the egr our and working fine but when I was tightening everything it sheared the top off.

So scrappy visit me thinks to get a replacement, once i get the old bit out. for now its secure with one nut anyway :y

Drill it and tap it to 8 mm I think from memory, doesn't matter if you put a torx headed bolt in or a normal headed bolt then :y

Being as the bolt has snapped, it shouldn't be too tight. You might be surprised to find it'll come out with your fingers! Or maybe a good set of pliers/mole grips to get it started.
Good luck.

Agreed. I don't know what access you have on the V6, but if you've enough. Hack saw the snapped stud to give you a slot for a flathead screw driver. This has got me outa the poo a few times :)
