Saw them at Knebworth in 1975, and Wembley a year later. :y

What a gig that would be, have been to see a couple of those bands, Floyed & Genesis, Really wouldn't mind who headlined though, it would be music heaven BTW, how would a bit of Queen fit into this ??

I'd want both Mark, with Eric going all the way through his back catologue including White Room, Those were the Days, Politician, Shot the Sherrif, Knocking on Heaven's Door, Wonderful Tonight, Sunshine of your Love, Layla, Cocaine, Strange Brew, Let It Rain, Have You Ever Loved A Woman, Crossroads, Blues Power, Badge, just to start with! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :D ;)
-
Fight between Pink Floyd and ELP at the top of the bill, then Queen and / or Genesis. No place for Yes or Rush --- but pop in some Fleetwood Mac for a change of pace.
-
Queen top with Pink Flloyd second for me!

I think the 1st queen album came out in 1973 (when I was 14)I thought it was quite poor(sort of Led Zeppelin lite) and then they went quickly downhill from there. :y ;D
These things are all very subjective of course, but imo its a toss up between queen and Zeppelin who was the most over rated band ever.

ac/dc, Saxon, Status quo and Slade are the ones I would rather listen to. Doro and warlock are also quite good followed by the scorpions. 8-)

Good to listen to, in their time, but hardly musicians !

Yes hits my spot I'm afraid 8-) :y :y and then after several shots of Makers Mark a very liberal dosing of Tommy Waites 8-) 8-) :y

Seen most of those
I have seen AC/DC blown off stage by a support act :o
Scorpions were ultimate professionals
Slade were brilliant
Status Quo got very boring after a while
Saxon - been in front row at one gig.
-
neil peart's the main man!
-
Led Zep, Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes in that order. :y
-
All is ok but not Rick Astley ;D

You are having a laugh surely?? :o :o :o
Their music has already stood the test of time and will do for many many years to come unlike some of the other bands mentioned on here. My teenagers and many of their friends are big Zep fans so they must have something to appeal to cross generations.
When they first came out there was absolutely nothing that was like what they were doing and subsequently many bands used Zep as their inspiration.
Without Zep we would have missed a whole genre of music which I, personally, think was probably the most revolutionary and unique ever (though I do admit Elvis did similar for pop music). 8-) 8-)

nope,i thought zep 2&4 were good albums but I dont think they deserve their ultra legendary status personally, much of this came about due to the manager (Peter Grant) being a very shrewd operator, while all the other bands were touring relentlessly and on TV every chance they got,he limited Zeps appearances on stage and they rarely appeared on TV or gave interviews. He then created an air of mystery around them by carefully leaking stories as and when it suited. This tactic made them stand out from the rest of the bands of the era - Deep Purple etc.
I re-watched "The Song Remains The Same" a few months ago and tbh I thought the performance was dreadful. But these things are very subjective, one mmans ceiling is another mans floor etc. :)
As for being unique,I think its debatable, the big leap in electric guitar music was when Clapton recorded the "Beano" album with Mayalls bluesbreakers that really took Blues based music in a whole new direction and set the tone for what followed, interestingly iirc Jimmy Page was a sound engineer or similar on that album so maybe that was the inspiration for taking the Blues to a different place, which was what he did with Zep,but personally I didnt really like where he went with it and I also think (controversial I know) that he has been quite over rated as a guitarist.
Anyone who is unsure I would recommend an open minded viewing of "The song remains the same"

... and considering the amount of drugs they were doing at the time it probably was :y :y :y
Take on board what you say but Song Remains The Same as a CD to play in the car while driving is 100 times better than watching the video/DVD I agree.

..........but so was everyone else ;D ;D
i was a moderate fan in my teens and went to the flicks to see Tsrts when it was released,I was a bit disappointed but still bought the album, you couldnt be a rock fan in the 70,s and not buy Zeps long awaited live album, but I was even more disappointed with that.
Personally I preferred Deep Purple,I thought Plants voice sounded shrill in comparison with Gillan, and I still think "made in Japan" is the best live album ever made. 8-)
My 25 year old son disagrees with me btw,he thinks Zep are the nuts. ::) ;D

See?? I bet he doesn't say the same about DP? My 22 year old is heavily split between Zep and Metallica - some good arguments have resulted ;) ;)
Haven't listened to Made in Japan for years - think I may listen to that and TSRTS the afternoon and let you have my "considered" opinion later as to the best ;D ;D ;D

Good idea Gareth. :y ;D
