Title: 2.5 to 3.0
Post by: doog on 19 May 2009, 11:08:10
I plan to swap my existing 2.5 for another one i have which has half the miles and has been better maintained  but i got thinking ... if im going to sway out an engine  would i not be as well fitting the 3.0 v6  as its the same amount of work

so my question is  is it a straight swap? will the ecu etc do fine with the larger engine or should i just save some pennies and fit the 2.5 i already have?

its far easier & cheaper to just buy a 3litre MV6 Or Elite mate!

If you fit a larger engine then you might have to swap the gearbox too. I know on autos going from 2.5 to 3.0 that the original AR25 should be replaced by the AR35. Not sure about manual transmission though but it's worth considering.

2.5 & 3.0 manual both use the R28 i believe

2.4 Auto uses the AR25 where the 3.0 uses an AR35

its cheaper to just buy a 3litre though you can buy an old preface elite 3.0 or mv6 for £500 even less if you look around at auction

I have a manual so the box should be fine
is the 3.0 a direct swap?

yes it is a straight swap just use all your old 2.5 sensors on the 3.0

No need to do that. They are all the same!

Just unplug the engine loom by the battery box and plug in the new one.
