There's something that troubles me deeply about this:

The Nazi's and Stalin had a similar system and they didn't work out too well.
-
my village has some nosey snoopers in it or "Grasses" as theyre known round here
the fact the police keep popping round for coffee and biscuits is hardly inconspicous!
-
I also read this and found it disturbing, someone in Islington been reading up on Mao ? >:(

Volunteers are given a list of things to do when confronted with fly-tippers, including taking photos 'without being seen'
Umm, taking photo's without being seen eh. Is there not a law against this, if I start taking covert pictures of my neighbours etc. whilst hiding, then surely I am a peeping tom !
-
Definitely leaves a bad taste -- apart from the Hitler Youth undertones -- it's councils trying to do their jobs on the cheap --- remember "Parkies" -- they were a pain in the rear end, but did a good job ( I can now see from an adult perspective !) -- but I guess an army of 7 year olds can do it cheaper :(

councils are abusing powers that are meant for terrorism protection the act is called something like RIPA
our local council Herefordshire council have been using these laws to covertly survey benefit thieves!

Bang on the money Ron, that is EXACTLY what Hitler did.

Technically, no -- as oft quoted on Road Wars -- if the camera man is in a public place he can point his camera wherever he likes !!!! As long as it'ss not close to a military establishment or he's a terror suspect taking pics of manhole covers !!!!

They don't need anti - terrorism laws for that -- they have had the powers to do it for many years.

There are (to date) over 3,700 laws that have been introduced in the last 12 years, none of which were needed because existing legislation covered them anyway.....but they were introduced nonetheless.
-
I find this completely out of order. Councils keep saying they dont have the money to repair the roads or keep parks for kids clean and open - but they have the money to give snoops hand held computers? >:(

Very true -- an indication of the total mess our legal system is in -- which is not being helped at all by all the hot air issuing forth from Brussels !!!
-
...and even families putting their rubbish out on the wrong day. ..
Words fail me. >:(
No they don't... If they employed bin men who could be bothered to walk the 15 feet up my driveway...

There's no way I'm going to do this, they are not eating all my biccys!!! ;D.

ahem the thick copper on road wars who says hes filming in a public place etc is completely wrong
if you write a letter to the chief constable of the police force that filmed you complaining about it then they will not show you in roadwars! same applies to traffic cops on the beeb
also you are perfectly within your rights to bring action against sky/bbc if you didnt give them your permission to film you

That of course would be the same hot air from Brussels that my grandfather used to proudly tell me he spent 6 years dodging bullets for, so that I wouldn't have to take crap from anybody else.......what a waste eh.
