Title: vectra B cam cover gasket replacement

I've got one to do on an X18XE

I presume they are pretty similar to the 2.2 and the how to here?

there seems to be a little debate on the place for the black goo.  any views on where is correct

Same place as the V6 IIRC - where the half moons are (on the sharpest angle)
