Title: If only
Post by: familyman on 11 February 2007, 16:31:43
The driving test car thread made me think after looking through my classic car weekly, if only i'd have kept that look at what its worth now. My Hunter gls £2-3000 as it was in good nick, Ford Capri mk1 3.0 gt face lift, Rover p5b v8, SD1 v8 vanden plas. Jaguar 4.2 series 3 ( maybe not, that one was a rust bucket. Every time i put my foot down a bit fell off!).  Even passed up a chance of daimler250 v8 1967 for 150 quid in '86, but it need an exhaust so didn't bother!!!!!!!!! :(

So just wondered if any one else got any missed oppertunities or ones they let get away.  :y

Slightly off topic I know  :-[ but what year was the Hunter?  By the fact that it was a GLS I imagine that it was a Chrysler car and therefore after '73.

So you have any more info on it?  I am a bit of a fan of these cars or rather Rootes.

My old Bantam motorbike had the reg LSD 56, and I sold it for 26 quid. Wonder how much that would be worth now.

In 1959 I was offered a Morgan 3 wheeler with the Matchless engine for £15. Didn't buy it 'cause it was overpriced :(

Well what do want to know, this was my first car, it was stripped rebuilt modded (sensibly of course ;D), rolling roaded at 132bhp at back wheels with a very lumpy 320 degree cam. The gls was a lot different from standard, with brake and suspension mods as well as engine (Holbay lump). So how can i help you. Did you know the true holbay lump in these had alluminium tubular pushrods with steel caps on the ends for lighter valvetrain weight don't you know. Very underated next to the fords unfortunately. I also had a hunter gt and a couple of arrow shaped sceptres.

On the subject of losing out on motors with desirable reg plates, I sold my old Singer Vogue back in the 70's for £100 with reg plate 2 BAN. My mate who bought the car then sold the plate for £200!! I was gutted!! :'(
