Title: Another oil thread
Post by: Martin_1962 on 26 May 2009, 11:30:53
Right - what is good oil to use in an Omega if you can't get Vauxhall oil?

I might try a local Esso to see if they have any Superlub as that used to be good oil.

The pains of having no local dealer with tradeclub

Any decent 10w40 / 5w40 meeting ACEA A3 will do. Halfrauds Semi Synth or Fully synth are fine IME.

if you use another make, and do short journeys, some of the others are more prone to mayo, and given the work you are doing could give cause for concern if you are not expecting it  :y

you havent been given a saab parts direct card have you?

I got one in the post, can use it to get generic gm parts to the door, oil, coolant etc.

given the price saving, is it not worth a drive to a dealer that does do it? Must be one with 20 miles or so thats in the club.

A drive to a dealer without oil in the engine probably wouldn't be worth it. ;)

I use shell helix ultra 5w40 and it seems like a good oil.
More expensive than GM original but more durable

Don't forget Opie oils either. Their mail order service is very good IME.

Reason I don't use a fully synth is that it doesn't stay in my engine long enough to warrant it.  Mine gets replaced every 3k, regardless.  Those intimately familiar with the internals of my engine, our very own Mr DTM, did comment on how clean the internals were :)

I won't get very far with her carrying me piggyback.

We have one car, a decent one

I agree Kevin, their oil kept my Toyota going very well for over 90,000 miles and at high speeds, with it being passed on at 250,000 and still going strong. 8-) 8-)  In my opinion, although I use GM Semi 10/40 in the miggy, the Halfords oil is a great alternative. ;) ;)

Tried Mobil 1 full synthetic both 10/40 and 0/40 (winter)..

They are all ok..but a bit expensive ;D

but I also prefer short change intervals.. so I dont use them now..

Worth ringing them to double check the TC price they are charging, seems to alter with each visit. Failing that I have to get some soon as well so will probably go to Lookers in Birmingham.

Best route to get to Cresser is Astwood Bank -> Studley (Station Rd), Turn Left just before the Barley Mow PH down the Redditch Rd at the island turn right and they are just opposite the BP Petrol Station.
