Title: Watch out Mike Dundee
Post by: Martin_1962 on 26 May 2009, 18:53:48
There is another quick 2.6 now, mine needs to get used to the new cams but pulls like a 3.0 over 5000rpm.

I reckon mine is now second quickest 2.6 on the forum after Mikes.

When I have redone 135 head gasket and checked over to a higher standard than now it will fly.

As to head skimming - too many fixed bolt positions I found.

Mike's is quick.

I suspect yours could be embarrassed by most decently maintained 2.5/2.6 manuals...

Mine is ported, 3.0 inlet splitter and 3.0 cams, pulls like a 3.0 over 5000 rpm - can someone move this to GC?

Be interesting to run it against my 3.2 (completely standard).

Yours would be quicker - but 2.6 are lower geared.

Can I hang on to your kit until I redo 135?

Very useful and after watching the DVD properly - easy

I used to own a 3.0 and that is why I reckon at top end it goes like one :y

Mine is the same over 5,000rpm it just goes and goes and with no limiter and the traction control turned off it's fun fun fun ;D ;D

It doesn't go quite like a 3.0l, and that autobox will never do a 0-60 like a manual.

I must say, my 2.5 is noticably quicker with 3.0 cams - it comes across as just the right amount of power, for the weight and type of car.

Lets be realistic though - no Omega is "fast" - that's not what they're about, buy a jap car if you want speed :y

Tb - as an aside - I know I've been in your MV6, but have I ever ragged driven it?

I need a test drive without error light on (now out), but it is definately livelier, and a little meatier sounding.

I am tempted to get it remapped in a few months.

I have owned a 3.0 and at high revs this feels as fast, but definately less torque.

Some of it though is gearing.

I remember driving that, down to Halse - and that was when it was poorly....

Remember thinking how reasonable the TD is, actually :y

Stupid bloody car coming the other way will remember the Halse roads, as the silly old fart was the wrong side of the road when I came the other way in her Rover yesterday.  Fortunately, enough room for me to use a lot of verge, silly old duffer

Mike's is quick.

I suspect yours could be embarrassed by most decently maintained 2.5/2.6 manuals...

Mine is ported, 3.0 inlet splitter and 3.0 cams, pulls like a 3.0 over 5000 rpm - can someone move this to GC?

The difference on the top end speed is great really does shift :y

My very short test drive was fun, but I want to refit a new gasket to 135.

Can't get a gasket for a few days and I needed the transport, so I am risking using a reused gasket (5 miles usage) for about 3 to 10 days.
I would have got one from the local dealers (HUGE parts stock in Tipton) and would have had a new one at dinner time, but the selfish owner went into administration yesterday :( :'(
