Title: what do we think to dti vectra
Post by: Bacon Butty Man on 28 May 2009, 15:17:45
just seen this car a few miles away from me,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-VAUXHALL-VECTRA-2-0-DTi-LS_W0QQitemZ270395700784QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3ef4d6f630&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

i was set on a rover 75 diesle til i was told that the body panels are now quite hard to come by, have just spied the veccy and its only 300 quid more but its 4 years younger than the 75, i like veccy's but these are cheap to run

No matter which car you decide on, people will inform you of issues (they all have them).

You're gonna have to get something soon, I recommend a diesel zafira :y

Except, of course, they do tend to.................... ;D

Veccy 2.0DTi is reasonably reliable.  Once over the initial 'hardness' of it (it is sprung quite stiffly) its fairly comfy on long trips (I've done 300m in one hit in one). Not particularly fast or economical compared to the 1.9CDTi engined ones, and not the most refined engine.

If its been poorly serviced, usual diesel problems of egrs and gummed up inlets.

Hasn't got the power to show the defficiencies in the vectra's chassis.

I beg to differ.... I could get mine very out of shape when I was playing! :y :y :y :y

As said though, they're not too bad. Reasonably nippy but still fairly economical, even when driven hard. I did find the seats a little uncomfortable though, particularly when compared to the likes of a Miggy, if I did more than 500 or so miles (which I do reasonably often)

All in all... Would I have another one........ If the price was right, but steer clear of the 1.8 petrol ones! Too under powered :y :y :y :y

now if you post on a Veccy forum about Omegas i doubt you will get a warm reply saying go buy one!!

I think the VeccyB's are a bit lacking, but the new shape ones are a vast improvment. Like the Omega you need to look past the badge, so much so a 3.0 V6 CDTi Veccy C is a strong replacement for my Omega  :y

I wouldn't advise it as a replacement for an Omega if you can get a decent Mig... But they aren't the worst cars on the road ::) ::) ::)

Must confess, I fancied a 3.0CDTI Signum but was somewhat put off after realising that the TC was intervening regularly on my 2.0DTi so what would it be like on the more powerful lump? :-/ :-/

In a couple of years thats going to become almost impossible, i am thinking 2 years or so down the line.

I think the best option is to buy a car thats about 4/5 years old, so lost most of its value but still young enough to have low millage, and be modern.

Omegas sadly, are going the way of Carltons & Senators.

Stuff all the techi talk, newer vectras are dull & uninspiring to look at & drive. Ok if you want a family/repmobile but no one could ever love it.
      Totally devoid of soul.

This is, sadly, very true :'( :'( :'( :'(

So much so, in fact, that I am keeping an eye out for a late registered 3.2 Elite Estate that is worth buying to replace my saloon... Then sell the saloon and LPG the Estate to keep me going for a few years :y :y :y

Trouble is now that b@stard new tax rate for cars, makes the big 3.2s and the 2.6 questionable.

Paying £450 a year to tax a car thats worth about £1k is getting pointless.

Thats whats making me look towards big diesels, VeccyC 3.0 CDTI, i really like the new shape BMW 530d Sport.

I thought the back dating to 2001 had been binned and it was only 2006 onwards hit by the mega tax :-/ :-/ :-/
