Title: Cheapo Tech2 Finally arrived
Post by: Jimbob on 06 February 2007, 12:01:28
After just over a month, I've had a phonecall from the Mrs saying 'A Chinese parcel has arrived'
Looks like Chinese customs have had it.

Looking forward to having a play

has anyone tried the English software from www.talktomycar.co.uk with it?
Is it the same? notice it has English / Hungarian option so looks promising.

No faults to use it on yet, but with 2 meega's in the house, thought it may well be worth getting in advance, especially with a month's delivery time!  At under £30 it will pay for itself if I use it once.
Will plug it in once I've charged up the old laptop and see if it talks to either / both.

Will it talk to the gearbox ECU?

The software (above) I've looked at, shows 4 options, Engine, Transmission, Chassis & Body

So I presume so, will know a bit more when I open it up and have a look.

the one I've bought is :

I think it's normally the software that lets the cheapo readers down.

It'll be interesting to see how successful it is for you.

I just downloaded it, and yes it is the same Hungarian software that I have with my cheapo Tech-II, and as far as I understand both Taxi Driver and Auto Addict have the same version as well.

On my 2001 car it works with the engine but not with the gearbox. But apparently this varys from one car to another..

I got mine off a guy in Germany, but it looks as if it is made in ROC so probably the same unit.

There is also another software around, which looks like a newer version of the Hungarian one (it has the picture of silver Opel cars - Vectras and a Zafira - in the background), but this 'newer' version does not actually work with my Cheapo Tech II.

Where did you get the newer one from? I could try it on mine.

Cheers

Cant get the bloody thing working though :(

On a real com1 port
tried various settings

just get the same error:
after selecting car, then picking an item, I get a box saying which 'pin' in use, then moves on to the next screen, after a second or 2 I get 'Not found interface! (there is no echo)'

Anyone had this?  got around it?

I get this whether connected to the car or not.

Tried the device in a more powerful laptop last night....

And it works fine!

So, anyone having trouble & Using that old laptop thats been in the loft for years, may be worth trying a better laptop.

As it is just a serial connection, I assumed any old thing could drive it, would appear not to be the case.

Only tried it on the MV6 briefly so far, but looking good.

Yes, decent machine reqd, as it appears it controls the indvidual lines directly rather than as part of rs232 protocol...

The other possibility is the old laptop was running windows 98 as opposed to XP on the newer one.
at 266mhz and 48mb ram, its about all it can manage!

So far not had time to check properly, the old one with no pictures on 1st screen works.
The one you sent me doesnt run properly, complains of a missing file and the graphics are corrupt, but will try again, the opel-tech didnt seem to work, but need to try properly.

So 1 out the 3 has worked, anyone found any other versions?
Soon as I get a chance I will try em all again on both cars.

Same on mine (i.e. only the basic software worked), except that the one with the nice pictures had no problem with the graphics onmmy laptop, it just didn't connect to the device...
