Ok. I am now in a REALLY bad mood! >:( >:( >:( >:(
I just typed all this out, went to post, and promptly lost internet connection!! >:(
MV6 failed on the following...
1. Nearside headlamps matched pair are incorrectly positioned.
2. Offside (high and not in focus) headlamps matched pair are incorrectly positioned.
3. Offside rear coil spring is incomplete.
4. Offisde front tyre tread depth below legal requirements of 1.6mm
5. Rear parking brake recording little or no effort.
Advisory on nearside front tyre wear too.
Right then....
1. Easy fix. Sort adjuster in n/s/f wheel arch.
2. Will be partly sorted by 1. But I also have moisture in the lens meaning replacement o/s HID unit! >:(
3. I blame Mark and his "testing" of the suspension at the weekend! ;D
Seriously though. Mark, can I borrow that good spring please? I just need it to get through the MOT.
I am replacing the whole setup very soon so no I have not lost my marbles in wanting to change 1 spring!
4. Change front tyres. I knew they were going to need doing soon so no great suprise.
5. Replace handbrake cable and give rear brakes a good service.
Nothing major (apart from potential cost of replacement HID unit! :o)), but of course now all this is required just as winter finally decided to arrive!!! >:(

LB66, my 'good' spring is in the boot of tunnie's senny if thats what you mean... ...fight it out amongst yourselves to you needs it and for how long...
Gutted in failed :(
No advisories on all the crap on the parcel shelf? ;D
-
Bugger! I forgot about that! >:(
Hmm, may need to obtain a spring from elsewhere briefly...
-
:( :( :(
-
Unlucky Dave :(
-
How long do you need for, few days, or weeks?

You could rent it out by the day TB ::)
-
Bad Luck Dave :(
Any chance of drying out the headlight unit to get it thro the MOT?
-
LB, if its just for a few days, I think Matchless has one that he promised to Tunnie, and was going to fit in around 10days.....
-
I have already spoken to LB about these minor blemishes tonight.
We have a plan.
Headlamp - dry it out and seal it up.
Headlamp aim, connect back up again.
Handbrake - new cable and sort shoes out.
Rear Spring - I am kindly volunteering Mark to do
Tyre - put a new one on.
Not so bad. How to turn a £200 banger back into a half decent MV6 in one easy go.
Ta Da! :)
-
Nothing to major Dave..wont be long till fixed ;)
-
Oh dear quite a bit of work there.
Bit different to my remove that plate and it will pass, then have a free cruise upgrade!
-
Oi!!!!!!
Whos that bloke in a cloke jacking up the back of my wifes Omega outside? Looks like laidback is trying to half-hinch my suspension! ;D
-
Dave, I have indeed got the the "good" spring from Jaimes MV6 in the back of my Senny. However as pointed out Matchless was going to donate a spring to me that was the same... so that should do to get your MV6 though its MOT.
I can't bring the senny up this weekend, the fuel line is cracked... :'(

Thought you had fixed that.....
2. Offside (high and not in focus) headlamps matched pair are incorrectly positioned.
Easy tweak...
3. Offside rear coil spring is incomplete.
Must have already been like that..... ::)
4. Offisde front tyre tread depth below legal requirements of 1.6mm
Silly bugger ;)
5. Rear parking brake recording little or no effort.
Thought you were doing that as well before the MOT.....

Agreed. The damn headlamp moisture is annoying though!

Yes, well pair of tyres will soon sort that!

I meant to... not difficult (unless there is a shed load of snow on the ground!!)
Thank you for that mate. I am sure your teams appreciate your equally warm supportve words in times of need! ;D
-
Im an engineer......I dont flower it up......
So when do you want the spring doing?

How very true... ;D
I'll give you a call later. Thanks :)

There is a spring on my garage floor, currently being used to stub an already broken toe everytime I open the door, but promised to Tunnie to fit on the Senna in a couple of weeks.
You could borrow it and save the air from turning blue whenever I go into the garage.
-
Well it would be selfish of me to not aid a friend in time of need, especially if my actions prevent physical injury! ;D
Thanks Pete. :D

This is surreal, I cant believe we are proposing to fit a second hand spring, let alone fit it to one car then fit it to another one two weeks later.
Will you need the loan of a spring in 12 months time?...perhaps we need to start a Forum library of essential-for-MoT spares, maximum 2 weeks loan or face a fine.

Would it not be easier to buy an Omega in every colour they did then hire them out at MOT time so you can put your own plates on ::)

Some weekends it looks like Mark's drive has every version and colour of Omega parked on it or filling the Close. :) You'd think the neighbours would get upset or wise-up and buy their own Omegas.
-
Hold the spring. Just secured a set. :)
-
WHAT?????
There is me frantic on the phone trying to get one, and you no longer need it.
Grrrrrrrr >:(
One less problem then.....
-
You are never frantic. ;)
Grumpy, irate, belligerant even, but never frantic!
Still could do with loan of a headlight though. :)
-
We can sort the headlight....no problem there.....

Ok, best do an update (sorry but other stuff has been happening over the last couple of days, I will post about that tomorrow)...
After a weekend of hard work. The MV6 now has a shiny new MOT cert. :D
Mark (once again thanks mate! :y) changed the rear springs for me.
I did the handbrake cable
Mark sorted the lights
Fin helped source parts and drink tea! ;)
And I bought a pair of tyres! ;D
However, the car is now looking a little different....
The springs we replaced them with were Irmscher springs! ;)
I bought a full set of barely used ones for an excellent price of Stuvaux on here. :y
Result... the back end is somewhat lower, and now runs on 255/45/17 rears!
Damn does the back feel planted though!! :D
I have ordered new Bilstein dampers al round and we will fit them along with the front springs.
Oh and it will have a chip from Mtek fitted too!
Result should be the car the MV6 should have been in the first place!
To anyone thinking about lowering it. I would say go for it (on an MV6 it looks great!) but be careful how much you drop it by. No more than 30-40mm.
Change the dampers when you do it though.
Mark will give a report of how the car really handles once all this is done as I will lending it him for 24hrs (no way am I going to be a passenger for that test!!) :o

Chicken ;D

Yes, I can confim that it handles very damned well. Going around a roundabout and booting it a bit was weird, as dispite a bootful of marks old bathroom, it didn't roll at all!
Having said that, my version of booting it a bit - as a responsible citizen, and that hooligan Russell having a thrash are not quite the same. ;D
Yes, a good team job all round there. granted, I didn't do much. but i did dfrink the tea, thanks to Mrs Hooligan for that.
This weekend, we can see what a wreck beautiful car I have bought.
