Title: Discussion of Copyright material
Post by: TheBoy on 14 February 2007, 18:23:15
This is just a reminder, in case some of the newer members are not aware (or have forgotten ;)), that we do not allow discussion of how to acquire, use, bypass copyrighted material illicitly.

This includes software, music, and last week's episode of Top Gear ;)

Obviously, if you have a legal copy of the software/media etc, we welcome the discussions.

And please, lets not turn this into the age old debate of its not illegal because its not a criminal offence etc, heard it all before, and bored with that one.

I apologise if anyone finds me to be a bit of a pain in the ass about copyright issues......

i'm somewhat personally involved , in that it's essentially what feeds my kids and keeps a roof over my head.

the law may be an ass in some respects...  but  some of those are being modified... largely after long and tiresome lobbying by the music industry itself.....  iPods are now legal in the Uk !  but there are SO many urban myths and half truths and , frankly, utterly complete falsehoods floating around in the "general populace" that most people don't actually know the truth of it.....  or understand that they ARE acting illegally, that it IS actionable, if someone bothers to chase it all up,    or appreciate how much it really does affect real people who rely on their intellectual property rights for an income....  and the service industries that support them.... that  are equally dependent...

over the years, I'm afraid the only method that seems to sink in to people is to be excessively brutally frank.....  and that usually means being rather rude and not a little brusque.....  to put it mildly.

other than that.. Let's all Chill out and enjoy life.....
