Title: So what do you fancy most?
Post by: hotel21 on 14 February 2007, 01:10:35
So.  Put yourself in the position where you have a lower spec GLS, CD, CDX or whatever and you fancy a wee upgrade.  If someone were to get a 3 litre elite or MV6 and was intending to break it for parts, what would be the most wanted bit that you would offer serious cash or trade for?  Poll is for fun, no ultimate serious intent.

Leather
Xenons
Alloys with tyres
Cruise
Interior Mirror
Rear Blind
Climate display
Aircon parts
Cams, for transplant to a 2.5
Rustfree Doors
other panels
other non listed part

options welcome......

Good question.
Thinking about what I'd miss most I think aircon, the auto dip mirror & cruise would be top of my list.
I don't have xenons & would really like them, the early headlights are crap.
I definately wouldn't miss leather, too hot & sticky in the summer & cold initially in the winter. Heated cloth seats would do me.......

The trouble is that not many people break estates, and so not everything fits  :-[  Idealy i would like a back seat from an estate in beige leather, as it would be much easier to clean up after the kids, but would keep the cloth front seats.

Alloys, cruise and headlights for me.

Having driven long distance in an early 2.0 CD without cruise and pathetic headlights, they'd be first on the list.

Cams
HID's
Cruise

Not bothered by leather to be honest.....climate I can also cope without...aircon is a must...

Cruise I use a lot and I like good lighting...(although Projectors with +50 bulbs are pretty good)

Eventually I would like to add Cruise but not yet, Elite alloy wheels + tyres and even change the doors for one's minus the rust.

Non listed parts.

a 5.7 V8 Monaro lump ...... maybe with a 6 speed manual box....      make my elite estate sit up and beg.....   give that Lotus engined Omega B that Omegatoy used to have a run for it's money :D

Oil pressure and Ammeter/ voltmeter

Colour Sat Nav maybe....   with Post Code search....  My Current original fitment Phillips/siemens based one doesn't appear to do them...

even more blacked out side and rear windows than i already have......

a power socket in the boot for my portable fridge. (No, seriously, we have one in the Sintra.... ideal for picnic trips in the summer.... )

some blue strobes behind the grille ;)

I voted:

Alloys with tyres
Cruise
Real real Xenons, not the +50 crud you get!!

HIDs are a must for me these days, both my cars have em and it's hell going back to halogens unless it's a really new car with well designed lights which perform very well by halogen standards (there are a few, but not many IME). Cruise is nice cos I do a fair bit of M-way, and steelies are just hideous these days!

Don't care for leather unless it's the sports seats, Elite armchairs don't interest me at all. I've got most of the other bits but could probably live without if necessary.

Paul - please don't take this the wrong way but ...... why bother owning any version of an Omega if you can also own & run an 8 series BMW? The Omega is never gonna hold a candle to the BMW while it has 4 wheels on the ground. It always going to be an 'also ran'. I've looked under the bonnet of an 850 V12 once - it was while the owner's son-in-law had been driving it .... it was ceretainly compact/frightening! :o

LOL... it's not as crazy as it seems! The reason I have the Omega is that you can buy an almost top spec dual-fuel 3.0 manual MV6 for buttons (c. £2k), which does around 27 MPG on gas, compared to ~18 MPG of the BMW. Servicing is cheaper, I can rack up big miles with almost no effect on the resale price since it's lost most of its value already, it'll carry 4 or even 5 people comfortably (BMW is really a 2 seater) and I can leave it parked out on the street in the city centre at weekends without worrying about vandalism etc. The 840 is a great car in a completely different league to the Omega -- solid build, great to drive, striking looks and wonderful V8 engine sound -- but it's expensive to run and is totally impractical for doing stuff like snowboarding or going on inter-city party trips with mates.

Horses for courses, they each have their own very different merits. When I had a 540i a few years back that was a car that could pretty much do it all (although it looks somewhat bland), but I quite like the two car approach as it means I can have something a bit fancier without giving up all the benefits of a more mundane practical car. What I save in petrol, servicing, depreciation and cheaper insurance (due to limited mileage) most likely pays for the Omega anyway.
