Title: Camcorder / firewire problem

I have two camcorders (Sony and Panasonic), two IEEE 1394 cables (1 new) and two compatible computers (both WinXP SP2) but neither computer sees either camcorder.   >:(

Having just reformatted and reinstalled XP on the newer machine I'm about to pull my hair out!   :o

Any ideas please?

Long time since I did it, but was there a driver involved?

Both machines have the “OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host controller” listed in the device manager but with a driver date/version of 01/07/2001 - 5.1.2535.0.

I have tried reinstalling the driver but I haven’t been able to find anything newer yet.

I`ve had the same problem with a JVC digi-cam.....did a fair bit of searching t`internet and came across an IEE1394 card-driver flagged as 'not present' as being the likely cause.
Eventually found and installed the correct driver for the internal card but the camera has still never been recognised. :-?

I don't know how investigative you want to get but if you download the Microsoft DirectX SDK you can play with Graphedt.exe which will give you basic control of functions and display pictures to chase connectivity problems.

Not for the faint-hearted though. :D

Nether camcorder came with drivers and none are available on their respective web sites, but both have connected successfully to the older PC in the past.   :-?
