Post by: cam2502 on 18 June 2009, 00:31:50
just back from isle of wight. 750 mile round trip, used £130 fuel :'(. computer said average of 33.4 mpg,was driving around 80-90mph and average on comp said 66.1mph. Seems a hell of a lot of fuel. is it? :-/

just over 26mpg by my calculations

£130 = approx 130litres, 130x0.22 = 28.6gallons
750/28.6= 26.2mpg  :(

about right for tanking it around

i avg 20mpg on short trips - maybe 30mpg on longer runs

I reckon thats about right or even better for a 2.5 at that speed (touching 80 / 90)  :y

Thats crap, were you towing anything.

I used to get 38 at 65 and about 32 at 70-80

I can do a run from Swansea to Stanstead on a tank of petrol (on a clearish run) and still have a bit spare which works out about 450 miles full load up empty coming back :y

:-/ ...So a couple of you guys say thats pretty good and couple more seem to think not so good. Still, she ran well, smooth as silk, very comfortable and after a 6 hour drive i wasnt tired or crippled.
Last year i drove down in my VW Passat 1.9TDi ,V reg. The fuel consumption was unbelievable, there and back for £80 so thats why i was asking if my Omega was being a greedy girl. Allowing for the fact it was a deisel, with a smaller engine and fuel prices were slightly lower i thought that was superb.

Its when you creep over 80/85, mpg plummets.

I can manage 34mpg over a long distance at a constant 80.  This begins to nosedive to mid/high 20s at 90, then looking around 20mpg much faster than that (3.0l auto).

Confused me a bit there Mark. I was doing 80-90 most of way and getting 33.4mpg,is it me or does that sound better consumption, for a higher speed, than you get at 32 for 70-80?

That will be because if you really did use all of the fuel that £130 got you to do 750 miles, your actual mpg was 25.71, not what your trip computer said!

I do a 17km run to work now and get 8km/l. Quite pleased with that considering I was getting 5km/l on a 7km trip.
