Somebody has clocked that.... look at the Headcode digits!
Looks like fun :)

Apparantly its cleared over 2 million miles....

Nope, this is a V12...it has the 12SVT engine which was an upgrade!
-

About 5-6.....although we were giving it quite a bit of gun!
-
Fer breaks sake don't crash test this one. ;D ;D
-
Lol.....it wont go where I want it to. It just kept following these bits of steel on the ground.
Makes a fantastic noise though with its twin turbos and no real silencer"!
-
Where did you start from & where did you end up?
-
Hmm, even you'll struggle getting that sideways. ;D
-
Telegraph pole looks a bit skew-whiff. Did it fishtail off the line? ;D

Whoops 8SVT
12SVT Won't fit - quite a bit longer and the 20s are short
12SVT is 1470bhp and fitted to the 31s
-
Hmm, even you'll struggle getting that sideways. ;D
I can bet that ;D

Now imagine two of these nose to nose with 40 loaded coal hoppers restarting from a signal stop.
There used to be a signal just outside of the office where I worked, (V Block at Plessey Beeston) if one of these trains got held at the signal all conversation in the office had to stop until they got moving again.

On loan from GBrF....I was not so impressed with it, it did not delivery the raw power and thrutch that the likes of the 56 and 47 do.
Having said that, the driver who turned up on Saturday was very good, giving it some stick. The guy who arrived on Sunday was not interested, he simply coasted it everywhere and was not impressed when we gave him a little nudge from the rear of the train!
I guess thats due to the computers all over it!
Its interesting how you can hardly hear the horns inside the insulated cab!
The 20's dont rattle to much if the balance shafts are correctly set (they dont stay set for long!)
-
mmmm....56's and 47's..good old fashioned equipment but being a passenger man give me some 1963 slam door EMU's any day

The 47 I like, simple.....the 56 with its alternator and thyristor setup is a bit more 'detached'
The 20 is great.....an old bike chain connecting the power lever to the governor.....pull and go!
-
All the above are inferior locos, I am afraid this is one of the best locos made in the UK and is better than any of the imported c**p we have now.

Better than any High Speed Shed
-
And if you want to go fast away from the wires you need on eof these!

Lol, they dont clear until they have been powered for about....err 3 weeks.
Ours smokes likely buggery despite a very recent re-build.....trouble is, it never gets properly warmed up.
The 08 was running nice and clear though....after chugging along at full chat (15mph ;D) for 5 miles with 4 coaches and a 76 on tow.
-
Very nice Martin! :y :y
But there was more smoke than in steam days, and coal smoke smells a lot better!! :D :D :D ;)

Lol, I note the switch design has not changed in 40 years!
I thought the 82's were dummy locos for the other end of a 91 operated train?

Well in that case someone should fit a boiler in it, walschaerts valve gear with rotary motion, along with three cylinders per power bogie, and call it a Leader Class!! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
Stupid diesels, false power units; all bluff!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)
-
Errr.....thats not a diesel....its electric :y
-

Well Mark I have been realiably informed it is nothing but an empty hulk with the real power unit on the other end in the form of a 91! :o :o :o
What is a true steam girl to think?? ::) ::) :D :D ;)
Diesel, electric......all the same.......boring (unless a Deltic! 8-) 8-)), nothing as good as steam! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Very good!! 8-) 8-) 8-) The wonderful Blue Pullman should have lasted a lot longer than it did, but such is "progress". ::) ::) :D ;)
PS I wonder why the driving position in these trains operation on Western Region tracks was on the left and not the tradition right of Great Western Railway engines; don't bother to answer, I know, so that conformed to the rest of the British Rail empire and the GWR pushed into history >:( >:( :'( :'(

.......and as for the American train, yes they are something else, using to the full all the space and lack of gauge restrictions as they can in the US.
I have seen some even longer trains when driving through Arizona into Colorado, and sometimes you just cannot see the end of the train or its front! :o :o Wonderful sights. :-* :-* :-* :-* :y :y Imagine though what it would have looked like with 4-8-8-4 'Big Boy' mallets thundering through 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

like this:

And a 54 year old British design can out perform it (if given the chance). ;D
TBH for passenger work the HST power car has not been bettered.
And Deltics are capable of 120s if allowed to wind up.
-
My favourite steam class can do 90mph, pull over 2000 tons and accelerate faster than a banking M7 while pulling its own train.

I have just been talking to swmbo about clearing out our loft for such a thing :y However she wants to clear the garage of things that will not get used again, Mig welder, crawler, new and still boxed and a variety of other equipment, including my jacks :o
It's a health thing, and they may not get used again, but I still dream of a project......... :y
