What are they called? I know they have a name in some parts of the country, bought some recently and the boys like them so will get some more, but they were just called sausage meat squares, or something like that. :y
-
I remember them, oh yes, way back in my youth, but I can't remember what they were called. Like most students, I just eat it, don't question what it was ;D

Lorne sausage, sometimes called simply square sausage in some parts of scotland - lovely :P :P :P
used to buy it from the local butcher in 1 foot lengths for a couple of quid and cut off a slice as and when required!! (didn't usually last long - unless you froze it) now i'm hungry.......
-
Lovely
often had it at oof meets when the Scottish contingent make it down :y
-
They sell them in Farm foods and go nicely in a bacon hash brown fried egg and Scottish sausage sandwich :y
-
I think it's simply known as Square Sausage in Scotland - had some for brekkie when Markie kindly put me up last time I was in Scotland. :y Down the other end of the country in Cornwall and parts of Devon it's known as Hog's Pud - luverly :y :y
-

Iceland sell it, can't remember if it's 'square sausage' or what, but our lot love it. Reasonable price too!!
Get on down to yer local Icelands Vamps. like pronto!! ;D

My friend buys these, but for me "square" and "sausage" do not go together. :P :P
Any sausage should be minced pork, beef or other meat, seasoned and often mixed with other ingredients, enclosed in a short length of animal intestine or synthetic casing so as to form a cylindrical roll (Shorter Oxford English Dictionary) :D :D :D :D :D 8-) 8-) ;)

You're probably quite right Lizzie, but Square Sauasage tends to be the sausage meat shaped into a square without the skin. Likewise, Hog's Pud is shaped (quite often round) but no skin. :)
-
I think you get 'em in Iceland or Farmfoods & known as sausage slices. I bought some many years ago when my son was 5 or 6 & neither of us liked 'em!! ::)
-
Ah, I seem to remember having square sausage for breakfast whilst staying near Stirling some years back.
Think they were made by McKellar & Watt ..... or whoever ..... Anyone?????
-
Square sausage I have came across down here is crap, nothing like the proper Lorne Sausage from home (Scotland) :y...........Excellent on a roll wee broon sauce :y

Bit of a distance to travel just for sausage isn't it? ;D you'd have to bulk buy to make it worth the cost of the flights
