Title: Nearly joined Jacko today
Post by: Elite Pete on 26 June 2009, 18:54:14
Next door planted a Eucalyptus tree in the corner of there garden bordering ours about 20 years and the bloody thing is about 40ft high now and blotting out our sunlight so I thought I would trim it a bit. Got the ladders out and the chainsaw and started to cut a branch but didn't expect the branch the ladder was resting on to bounce so much when the of cut fell, the ladder must have gone straight but luckily fell back against the tree. I was only about 25ft up, I'm just removing the mess from my shorts ::) ;D

Next time try lashing a chain saw on the end of a twenty foot pole and keep your feet firmly planted on terra firma :y

Given the message above I felt it proper to inform the HSE :y, ....I must say I am very surprised Pete :-X, ...given your experience thought you would have done a Risk Assesment at least and then produced the H&S method statement [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beer.gif]

Better still (you're not supposed to wave chainsaws above your head) try lashing the branch to a rope thrown over a higher branch and get someone to hold the other end.  it can be made to swing away from you and can be lowered to the ground in a controlled manner (well mostly).
