Title: Advice Please - Computer Memory.
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 08 July 2009, 11:14:49
I think it will work ok but just at a lower speed.

I have a Compaq Evo D310.  Seems it has 2 odd 128mb Dimms in it.

Just checked the specs and apparently it can run 2 x 1GB DDR PC2100

Went on the Crucial Web Site, they recommend PC2700 and confirm it is 2x 1GB that fits.

Am I right in assumuming  that if the board on runs at PC2100 speed then the PC2700 will fit and run  but only opperate at the lower board speed.

TIA.  :y

yep..2700 will run on slower speed.. so no problem.. :y

and also your mobo timings may permit to run them even in 2700 if adusted properly by some multiplication factors..

Cheers Cem.  I thought it would be ok but thought it worth a mention.  Also the fact that Crucial advertise them for that system they should be ok..

Cheers.  :y :y

As Cem says, the 2700 will quite happily drop to 2100 if that is all the BIOS/chipset will allow.

If your BIOS/chipset does allow memory tweaking where the BUS speed is concerned, you might as well buy PC3200 and ramp it up as much as you can.

£31.04 per IGB inc Vat.  (62.08)

Bit cheaper from Aria etc, but as TB pointed out a while back, Lifetime warranty and never been handled by muppets.  Price inc del.

£59.67 from Aria inc Del for 2x 1GB Kingston (but could be returns - even though they are not supposed to.)
