Post by: BERTIECBX550 on 09 July 2009, 22:51:41
I have a dilemma folks....I have been left my dads train collection and well to cut a long story short i`m skint and my next door neighbour has always admired me dads train collection and he`s offered to buy it off me as he knows i`m in a mess at the moment but he is not seeking to do me out of decent price...What i need to know is how do i get them valued? i`ve looked at e-bay and tried a search engine and its also upsetting me that i`ve even thought about this.... :'( Any help will be appreciated....

Details, pics, price etc :y

I would have thought ebay as a guide, dealers tend to give poor prices as they have to make a profit.  Don't think train stuff gets big money unless Mint and boxed.
Sold loads of trains and scalextric back in 1996 when I became a student. Very disappointed with some sales and over the moon with others.

Local auction houses might give free valuations.  As for selling the collection, your dad wouldn't be unduly upset, if the sale is helping his lad out. There is also the bonus that, if the neighbour buys, it's probably going to be a cherised collection, rather than gathering dust in some hidden corner.

I`m really undecided on this as i wanted to keep em and possibly pass em if i had kids and also i`ve gotta tread carefully as i dont want to upset my uncle as he would probably go through the roof about me even considering this..... But the thing is guys i`ve already resigned myself to selling the house we`ve spoken to a solicitor and estate agent and thtas going ahead but we needed to do stuff to the house I.E. new fuse box, shower cubicle reasealing, kitchen roof and ceiling and a lick of paint here and there and my brother has had to lend money to pay for this so i need to help him out and this is the only way i believe i can as my wages will be dead running the house till the sale goes through.... :-[ :-/

Dont do it
money problems dont last forever and you will survive being skint

you will hate yourself if you part with them and you cant get them back
