The explanation was that it had a destruction order on it imposed by a judge due to it having been owned by a convicted drug dealer
Oh dear! How sad! Never mind!!!! ;D ;D ;D :y
-
Drug dealers car apparently, and wasnt it funny how for all the technology the Army had, none of the bullets fired actually hit the car until Clarkson got out of it......
I love Top Gear, but sometimes the staged nature of some of the features is a bit frustrating, like the Michael Schumacher in the Reasonably Priced Car too.....why didnt he do a proper time......or could he not do it for legal/insurance reasons......???
And if I hear Hammond say "That didnt go well" one more time I am going to scream.......
:y

but what about that gorgeous white 500bhp evo7 :'(...i was in a bad mood all night... >:(

It was either to be crushed in a crusher (by order of a judge) or wrecked on army test ground...
-
id have taken that and got it logged as a rallycar...gorgeous motor.
-
The "clarkson gets chased by the army" section was very similar to something from a few series ago, running out of ideas methinks.

Not sure if that rings true though, afaik assets seized from criminals are normally auctioned off. :-/

Varies on what judge says - he may declare the car crushed or confiscated (auctioned)

Never liked him. Hammond is more of a diva than a motoring journalist. May is the best.
-
But we all still watch it :y

i can put it on a disc and send it you if you like no probs :y

i would just like to say that the topgear episode you saw on sunday was brilliant. filming was such good fun (even if mr clarkson is an arrogant c***.) however, pretty much everything was staged, even the part where they rearranged the order of march as one of our vehicles kept catching the evo cross country!! was still a good laugh.
-
iPlayer anyone?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lr4wc/Top_Gear_Series_13_Episode_4_(new_series)/
I've owned a Subaru Impreza P1 in my past, and to see them destroy a perfectly working Evo was gutting, regardless of the cars previous owner. Yes, so they were probably going to destroy it anyway, but a car like that would have gone to auction. At the beginning of the feature, Clarkson said that they paid £8000 for it.
£8000 of taxpayers money, why? I wish Clarkson was still in the car when the .50 cal rounds hit it. That would have made a nice hole.
I love Top Gear, don't get me wrong, but that was one of the most pointless things they've ever done.
-
Destroying the car didn't make the feature for me - the chasing around and the military technology was interesting. Not interested in seeing a good car get shot with tracer rounds.
Is it just me or is it well planned timing for the MOD? Big up the army equipment and vehicles etc. when everyone is questioning if our boys have enough gear?
Perhaps I am just cynical... :-/
-
You can say what you want about Clarkson, but I think he's a genius. None of us would bother watching it if it wasn't for him! What's the alternative? Fifth gear? They've tried and failed dismally to emulate the success of Top gear. There's no contest
-
I think it's definately Jeremy Clarskon that makes Top Gear what it is. Over the years he's done some great stuff, and he talks a lot of sense.
But the only problem now is that he's starting to disappear up his own arse. Big shame.
-
I would say its a very funny show, that happens to feature some cars.
Havent watched this weeks yet, got it recorded though.

Or it was just another load of old 'dangle berries'. It's becoming more like jackanory every series. If Hammond's eyes protrude any further they'll pop right out.

Did anyone catch James May's Apollo programs?
Apart from provoking massive jealousy, I thought they were well made. - much better than his stupid thing with Oz what not..

Yes, I saw these and thought they were exceptionally well done. I didn't realise just how fit James May must have got himself in order to pass all the necessary pre-flight tests. :o It must have been well worth it once he was flying on the edge of space. 8-)
-
I think most tv programmes that are popular tend to go over the top as they run out of sensible/interesting ideas.
Top Gear is definitely on the way down in my view.
The ideas usually come from young, immature researchers in my experience.
-
i'm old enough to remember Top Gear with William Woollard and Noel Edmonds pontificating on how great all these dodgy old rust-buckets from British Leyland were!!!
New Top Gear was a breath of fresh air - it has diminished somewhat in the last few seasons - getting a bit gimmicky and crowd-pleasing - none the less - its still easily the best car show on the box - and they review and test honestly.
Fifth Gear is good- but would they be critical of a car that was being advertised in the break of their show? (edit it or lose the ad revenue....click)
the army thing i presume, was filmed months ago - and i reckon JC, JM and RH with the producers, love to show the forces in a good light - plus, they've got all the best toys so i don't think its any more than that :y :y
p.s. both me and the mrs were gutted about the Evo - but if it was getting destroyed anyway - at least it went out in style ;)
-
