sorting out a mates ford focus....
she hasnt had it serviced in 2 yrs and the car was idling irratically.
well first thing was to solve the idilling snag. easy split pipe. temporary repaired with a heat shrink over the split. :y
Next to get on with the service.........
well the oil filter was rusted on and the oil was like sluge. going to change the oil again in a month or so.
the car now needs 2 new tyres, new front headlight, brakes need looking at due to the stopping distance being way to long ( think this might be due to the fluid needing changing. but ill look at the whole system for her
all in all i had a productive afternoon the best bit about it was bending her fellas ears. ;D ;D i started with the fact he drove to mine and didnt even notice that he had a flat tyre, >:( after about an hour i told him to tell me the truth about what i was asking him to do withthe car and stop hiding the fact that hes not been looking after it cos i cant get it back upto speed without all the correct information!!!!!!!!! his missis was loving the fact i ripped him a new one ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That sounds like a real worth while job done there Marie! :y :y :y
It is amazing how so many people believe you can just drive a car endlessly without doing any maintenance! :o :o :o
More work to be done on it later as well then, which is hardly surprising after two years use. :D :D ;)

Several years ago i as asked by my brother in law if i could take a look at his 2.0ltr montego, as it would not idle properly, it would '' Hunt'' then stall. so armed with my tools went to his place and set about the basics to start. first checked the throttle body was clean, blocked solid with crud, then checked all the breathers were clear, blocked solid with more crud, and then finally checked the dipstick tube which you can guess was partially blocked with solidified oil.
When i asked him when the car was last serviced his words were '' i dont know before i got it i suppose''. How long you had it then john, ''ohh about 6 years i guess''.
I had to replace all the rubber hoses and drop the sump pan to clean the oil pick up and oil pump pipe, removed the oil dipstick tube and cleared the blockage and the plugs and oil /air filters
Car started first time idled at the correct speed. Brother in law said a few days later that he had forgotten how quick that it could go and had to keep slowing down. The oil was changed again a few weeks later and ran like new till he sold it a year ago. The body was rotting away as you looked a it, but the new owner only wanted it for the leather as it was the vandan plas edition So your not the only one to come across men with compleat ignorance to cars
Gary. ::)
