For those of you who never saw a rocker cover leak before, this is what it looks like (well, you can’t really see much, but it is wet and oily where the arrow is pointing):

Oh, you’ve all seen one before then…? Sorry, I though this was the first one… ;D

With any luck mine will be cured by Saturday evening :)

Mine was done by Vx under warranty just under 3 years ago, and went again in spite of frequent oil changes - I guess that's their life expectancy...

Breathers?

I don't need to see the oil, the stink of burning oil wafting into the cabin is usually sufficient! ::)

I know it so well.......

Breathers?
Vx didn't clean the breathers at the time, there are strict rules as to what they do and do under warranty... I didn't clean the breather since either based on the premise that frequent oil changes should eliminate this problem...? that and because it was wet. and cold. OK, I'm lazy... ;D
Guess the breathers will get done now... well not now now, I intend to get the front wheel bearings + disks done first.
Let it drip away for a while then.... :(

Yup, breathers are a service item, not a warranty item.
-
Interestingly, the same Vx garage offered me to have the breathers cleaned when my previous Omega was in for the 4y/40k service (some 6-7 years ago now), and I took them up on it - however with this car nothing was mentioned at the 4y/40 service even though it was the same garage...
On the other hand, with this Omega they did offer a cambelt and tensioner change, which I initailly declined but came back for it a while later and got it done. They didn't offer this to me on my previous car though, which sailed through to 60k before the tensioner finally did pack up (as some may remember Vx picked-up some of the bill at the time).
So much for service consistency.... :(

Just doing me gaskets now. Disconnected the 4 pipes at the back just before it went dark. The two big ones look just like those pictures you see of chain smokers' (no offence) arteries - completley blocked with goo - horrible site.
They should at least have asked you if you wanted the breathers cleaning - then again they are Vauxhall.
Probably already got the bits in for when you need them changing again in a few months.
(They quoted me 400 quid to do the rocker covers - 'you need to replace the whole covers on the V6, they don't have seals, sir'. Yes quite.)
Cheers,
Ian

Nope. They got it wrong. Covers are weld shut, you need a new engine mate... ;D

I was told this today as well, but he said only on the very early models...

Hope '98 doesn't count as very early.
