Just received by mail a clearly photocopied letter addressed to "Beneficiary" from the Elite Security Network S.L. on behalf of th El Gordo Spanish Sweepstake Lottery telling me that I'd won 805,290 (Euros). All I need to do is fill in my bank account details....(yeah, right)
Funny thing is that the envelope, with my surname, initial and address (all handwritten), was clearly posted in Spain as it has a franking mark and Spanish 62 cent stamp. I guess if they are making that much money out of these scams, they can afford the odd stamp.
Worth informing anyone, or should I just bin it and forget it?

You could inform you bank manager. He may give you a loan on the strength of it :y

;D ;D ;D ;D
Just spoke to the Spanish embassy (you can see I'm a bit bored today) and they said that it is scam which is known to them. They said I could send them the letter if I wanted. Curiously, though, they said that no crime is committed until someone gives the scammers the info and they take your dosh. I think this is odd, because, here in the UK, attempting to commit fraud is, I think, an offence. :-/

Sadly "bin it and forget it" is the only way to go. No-one will be interested as they have bigger fish to fry.
You've got to admire them using the old methods though.
Chances are they paid good money to someone who sold them an address list with the promise of making loadsamoney.

The word "Beneficiary" on it's own is enough for me to automatically discard it.
I work to a very simple rule....if it isn't addressed to me correctly (or the name is just plain wrong), it goes in the bin.....end of!

I'm not missing anything Jaime.
I mean, why the fook would I want to waste my time on some amateur when I can be frying something bigger?
Hell, even if I don't have a fish to fry....why the fook would I want to waste energy on something I'm never likely to see face to face in the first place?

I sent a scan of the paperwork off to El Gordo as I noticed they have a scams@elgordo email address.
This morning I received this delightful reply:
Dear Sir or Madame,
Thank you for your co-operation.
The Spanish police and authorities are trying to stop them but It is very complicated catch them because these guys are not spaniards and they are ilegales in Spain. Our company is trying to inform all people with our warnings.
Do not hesitate contact us for further questions.
No political correctness in Spain, then. Love it! ;) ;D
