Everyone is welcome here.
Everyone has an opinion, but we will not tolerate, racist threads, threatening behavoir, extreme foul language, abuse etc.
This is first and foremost a car forum

I think the decision to bin the whole thread rather than trim out a few posts which descended to personal insults is very wrong. The thread contained 7 pages of interesting debate regarding immigration, some of which was heated and went to far,but to bin the whole thread has reduced OOF to the politically correct, nanny knows best level of mentality which most members despise. >:(
P.S.If the admin team feel that I am a racist please let me know and I will leave immediately.

No-ones accusing anyone of being a racist, as regards binning the whole thread, I'm afraid I took the easy way out, too time consuming to study in detail, and decide which post deserves deleting, and which doesn't.
I'm all for debate, but sometimes debates get out of hand, which in places, that one did.
Just to justify my actions - this morning, when I logged on, I was flooded out with emails, regarding this thread, and other matters.
It took me half an hour to read them all.
-
I think the Admins do a good job on here, at the end of the day its their board and they can moderate how they see fit.
Having "off topic" forums is a minefield, ive been a visitor to several forums in the past where theres been little to no moderation and they turn into a nasty cess pit after a while, especially with the internets being pretty much anonymous.
I would imagine theres no reason another thread on the subject cant be started, as long as it follows the rules we all signed up to agree to.
I think the problem with the old thread was it was started up late at night when people may have had a few liquid refreshemnts :P and tend to post things they might not do during the day
-
All being naughty after my bedtime eh? ;D
-
I missed the offending thread but think AA has made the right decision... The admin team give up their own time, UNPAID, and if removing the offending posts is too time consuming then the whole thread is the best option.
Thanks, once again, for all the hard work admins :y :y

remembering some old threads from past , I think also sending a complete thread for the bin is a better approach to stop further problems..
also if some selected posts would be deleted those members can take it personal..
as a far member , looking from outside and considering the image of OOF some threads really must never be existent..
so well done admins.. :y :y

i think AA did the right thing in binning both threads. deleting a few selected post can often make matters worse.

I have not seen the thread in question, but I fully support Auto_Addicts actions based purely on:
1) The fact my PM box has burst again with all the complaints about these 2 threads. Sorting out the acceptable posts from the crap takes too long.
2) Auto Addict is a long serving moderator here with similar viewpoints to the rest of the Admin team, and has EARNED our respect. I'm disappointed to hear he may not of earned yours - believe me, his actions were taken in doing what he thought was best for OOF,
Having not read the thread, I can't add much more other than say that from the complaints received, I would have done the same thing I suspect.
We welcome debate on OOF. BUT we will not tolerate any abusive/offensive posts (public or private) against any other member. The recent, worrying poisonous undercurrents on this forum recent are detracting from what we are trying to achieve - being the best Omega site on the net. As part of that goal, we aim to be friendly, welcoming, all emcompassing in order to achieve that.
We hoped to achieve those goals via very light moderation, relying on common decency of members to help us in our goal, not alienate new and existing members. We really don't think heavy handed moderation is the way to go, but the current situation is intolerable >:( >:( >:(
Over to OOF's membership....

I haven't seen this thread, so cannot comment on the content -- but I know, from experience, that these things can, and do, oft go too far and stray from what we might term "Common Decency".
At the end of the day we must also bear in mind that this is a public forum, open to all ages, races and creeds. All of whom are welcome.
The mods are there, amongst other things, to keep us on track. They do a great job and help keep this place the great place it is. What they say goes.
If any admin sees fit to delete a whole thread, then so be it. As has been said before -- it is more expedient and fair to all thread contributors, rather than singling out the "worthy" from the "not so worthy".
Frankly I have seen threads that have made me want to spit out my dummy and up and leave ( and I think I am fairly thick skinned).
We are all fellow enthusiasts, a lot of us are friends too. There is enough strife elsewhere in the world without dragging it into our leisure lives.

I made a couple of comments on the thread in question and I am glad that it was dealt with in the way it was.
The person who started it appeared to be looking for a response and got it in various forms.
Luckily in the most it was felt to be unacceptable for the forum and I completely agree.
Good work by the admin again :y
-
Glad its gone, it was nasty in places and uncalled for.
-
I saw it - best job was to bin it :y
-
I saw it, was offended by it and responded accordingly
I believe the threatening PMs being sent should be read by Admin and appropriate measures taken to ensure people who make threats like that have no place on a forum as good as this one is.......
Agree with the total removal of the thread too, it was nasty..... :y
-
terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired!
-
I repeat, just in case anyone missed it in my earlier post
we will not tolerate any abusive/offensive posts (public or private) against any other member
I have now read thread in question. Whilst some valid, debatable points were raised, the way in which they were debated is unacceptable.

Thanks AA for sorting the thread but i wonder if any measures are going to be taken against the one/s who abused and threatened as it wasnt't the first time :-?
-
AA did the right thing. :y :y
Indeed, I was going to ask for the whole thread to be binned.

People who make threats of violence via PM dont deserve to be on this forum.

I agree that the whole thread had to go. It became a cauldron for bad vibes.
I dealt with it by going to bed. Fortunately, while I slept...
Editing a thread can be extremely difficult as people comment on nuances in other posts which may disappear in the edit. There's a lot more to the exchanges than just the text. Even the timing of them can be relevant.
Good one Admins. :y
-
Well done ADMINS, to delete it was the correct action to take, is was nasty, and offensive, and not something I would like to read again.

I have missed this thread completely, and by the sound of it just as well!
If it was like earlier threads on this type of subject AA is right; they have NO place on this Forum, regardless of the "freedom of expression" principle as so often the people peddling racist comment do not want others to have their "freedoms"!! >:( >:(
I will say no more, other than say I was surrounded by children and adults of all different creeds, colours, shapes, sizes and religions yesterday at Chessington World of Adventures. Everyone was getting along together, having fun together and on ocassions helping each other out. That is how life should be continually! Why make life so hard and uncomfortable by doing anything else; life is all too short! ::) ::) ::) ;) ;) ;)
Peace to all 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Thanks admins, I know how thankless a task it can be.
-
Good call AA ... :y
-
job well done aa ! :y
-
:-? I missed that one too, but sounds like pulling the plug completely was the right :y
We can't expect admins to do a full days work (however easy it may be ;)) and then have to go through every post and all related PM's on just one thread, due to some members stepping outside forum rules, on top of all the usual daily admin work.
Freedom of speech yes, but forum rules are clear enough.

I've just got a flavour of this thread from another member. If I were an admin (God help us), at the first sign of a threatening PM, that member would be an ex-member.

No exceptions. There is no walk of life where this behaviour is acceptable. Moreover there would be consequences from the law or an employer. Totally unacceptable, and clearly knew as much as it was done via pm. It has been mentioned previously that its not the first time either, and having read the original thread in question, appeared to be backed up by the op.....

The only realistic decision that could have been made and sensibly has been :y :y
-
The right move AA. Last nightwas not pleasent. >:(
-
As far as I can remember the unpleasantness was between two members who were posting on the thread. One of these members stated that the other one had threatened them with violence via PM.Imo the admins should read the PM concerned and if the accusation is true the member concerned should have their membership cancelled immediately,no ifs or buts.
The reason I was p1$$ed off this morning was that I had posted several of my long winded opinions which took my typing finger a very long time to type. ::)
I have taken a few deep breaths and had a few hours kip since then and would like to say that although I still dont completely agree with the decision,I do fully support the admin team in what is sometimes a thankless task in running and moderating the forum. :)

Can everyone just take a moment or 2 to reread the forum guidelines (which should be considered rules).
Rather than go back over old arguments, lets wipe the slate clean from now.
Any further offensive or abusive posts on this forum, either or a thread or via PM will be met with the wrath of the Admin team, which may result in warnings, suspension or bans as whatever any Admin thinks is valid.
If anyone receives offensive or abusive PMs, please contact the online Admin who will look in to it.
The forum guidelines are posted at the top of every section.
