Zone alarm keeps popping up these warnings;
Generic host process for Win32 services is trying to act as a server
Or, less frequently:
Generic host process for Win32 services wants to accept connections from the internet
What do they mean and should I allow or deny them?
Thanks.

Does it provide any other details about WHICH processes they actually are?
Zone Alarm can sometimes be a right pain in the arse to understand / configure :-?

shouldn't be anything on a PC actively listening for connections assuming you haven't eneabled file sharing.
Couple of AV scans and spyware scans may be worthwhile

No it doesn't :(
For now I've just gone into the program control panel and allowed it to act as a server for the trusted zone but not the internet. It tried to warn me off adjusting the settings but I'm sick of the alerts.

Jaime, zone alarm constantly scans and updates. Sometimes I wonder just who the rather computer belongs to ;D ;D

Ouch! I'm trying to figure out what processes they might be, but the options are endless :( It may me any service trying to get access to the internet or as TB mentioned, it might be viruses or spyware. I guess that in any case, it would be worthwhile to have specially a spyware scan with something other than the Zone Alarm.
How long have you been running the Zone Alarm STMO?

try msconfig.exe from command line..
goto start up tab and check all starting programs from google to get some info about them..
a bit tedious.. but you will see whats going under the hood..
nowadays nearly all software, access internet and send and get some info..so zonealarm will alarm in many cases.. :-/

I used to use zonealarm but, when vista came out never bothered and had less problems since I haven't had it to be honest.

Apparently its a problem caused by a change to the way Windows does certain things (polling an ip port) and how Zone Alarm responds to that. Probably will be sorted by an update by one or the other of those groups of geeks :o
