The reason I ask is that I was just talking to a mate and told him I had some Scampi in the the freezer. he then asked was it a type of fish or something else. To which I had to admit that I didnt actually know.
Variety of Lobster
Several varieties of lobsters are known as scampi. The 'true' scampi are Norway lobsters (Nephrops norvegicus), which are found in the Adriatic, parts of the western Mediterranean, and the Irish Sea, hence its name in Ireland and the United Kingdom, the Dublin Bay Prawn. The French term is langoustine.[1] It is the plural of Italian scampo, but that form is rarely used in English. The name is used loosely both in Italy and elsewhere to refer to other similar species, though some food labelling laws (in Britain, for example) define "scampi" as Nephrops norvegicus.[2]
The fleshy tail of the Norway lobster is closer in both taste and texture to lobster and crayfish than prawn or shrimp.

I must admit as well as Scampi, I love Cod, Only when it's fresh though, hate the frozen stuff.

My favorite is called Hammour (in the middle east). It's actually called a grouper or sea bass in Europe I believe. Very tasty when you know how to grill them :y
Oh, and yes, tiger prawns tempura :D
-
Cod, I guess. Rather expensive in the Middle East, therefore whilst back on holiday in the UK endless trips to the chippy or Harry Ramsden. :y

For a posh meal, try Dover Sole. Unbeatable (and VERY expensive!). :y

Fugu, but you've got to know how to prepare the little b*ggers ::) or you could end up leaving feet first :o

My two all time favourite fish are Rosada (a sea fish only caught off the West Coast of South Africa) and Nile Perch (freshwater fish only found in the upper reaches of the Nile ) Both are absolutely delicious. Trust the Spanish to scour the planet for the best fish.

Wouldnt sayu I had a fav, like most, as long as good quality.
in the chippy, always used to be a choice between cod or haddock, but they only normally had cod out, i'd always ask for a haddock, not for the taste, but it would always be cooked fresh for me, beautiful.
like tuna, snapper, trout, plaice, scampi, bass, lemon sole, will try most.

Just had a mobile fish merchant to the door.
Had a chat and enquired about some cod. pack of 2 fillets was £6.80 or £5.80 for a freezer pack. So I said I would have a freezer pack and went off to find some dosh.
Cheeky bugga then promptly asked me for £58, cheeky sod never said a freezer pack was a £1 a pack off but x10.
Anyway, ended up with one pack for a fiver. . . . . .So now the price is set. ::)
Are all geordies that cheeky.

I enjoy most fish but can't be arsed to pick bones out so must be filleted, life's too short. Only orher bugbear is "smoked"haddock etc that's been died yellow not actually smoked, i hate that. I love fisf pie with cheesey mash home made or microwaved, fish fingers, cakes (home made when i can be bothered) & i love tinned mackerel, high in OMEGA 3!!!! Tuna tinned or fresh i can take or leave.
Try a fresh fillet of your choice in tin foil with olive oil, chopped onions, garlic, fresh chives, sea salt & lemon juice wrapped up & slowly oven cooked for 20 ish mins, unwrap & serve with jersey royals & veg. MMM.
As for the obvious & my personal fave refer to the Beasties reg. plate.!!! :P
-
Just to wind up the fish head haters, when in eastern european parts I catch and pan fry Perch, Pike and Roach.... delicious! But the pike must be small or they taste muddy. Smoked Bream mmmmmmmmmm.

Haddock & Mackeral :P :P I find Cod too bland for my taste.
Mark, the fish don't swim in our sewage any more, it's filtered through very large tanks before being let into the sea :y
