I cannot see any member commenting on the news this week that BMW are leaving F1 at the end of this season. :o :o
Is this the beginning of the end for quality F1 competition, or even the end of F1 complete? :-/ :-/
Some commentators were stating this could open the flood gates for other teams to leave. What do those that care think? :D :D :D
-
I personally think F1 will survive in one form or another, I don't think BMW leaving will change anything, they have just throw there toys out cos they aint winning and not winning is not good for the BMW name. :-X
-
Don't know don't watch formula 1 but it means they can focus more on their road cars which are a quality product anyway :D
-
Frankly my dear..........you know the rest....xxx

But Del I have always understood that the massive investment involved with F1 was so the R & D of various parts and the technical knowledge gained could be translated to their production road cars. Won't BMW suffer from a lack of a future F1 testing programme? :-/ :-/

wouldnt be surprised if Toyota and maybe others soon follow.Sooner the better imo,the big manufacturers with their almost blank chequebooks have not been good for the "sport".I would like to see F1 consisting of teams run by enthusiasts like Frank Williams etc, again.

BMW managers probably think the investment required for F1 dont bring them any extra sales..
and F1 is the first place to go for cutting expenses..
-
I think they set themselves a target that they were not going to meet.
It's negative marketing if they are an "also-ran".
Considering they produce a lot of high performance road cars it was not good that they could not make a racing car stand out at the front.
-
probably upset nobody lets them out, lets them past or generally accept the fact that they own the road and stropped off waving an imaginary wallet in the air when they loose. The rest of pit lane most likely glad to see the back of them sitting in the road chatting away never using their mirror and hogging the racing line with a righteous attitude.... Stuff em! :-)
On the other hand bike development seems to be going well in world superbikes, lets hope they dont bring the "neck" with them to the bike world. :-)

like Honda they have had enough of pilling in money for no results
-
bmw honda toyota, all had ideas above there station, they all thought we are going to walk this. Big mistake on there part, especially bmw I am afraid, honda toyoya make run of the mill cars so nobody that bothered. bmw on the other hand are supposed to make "better than average" cars. In my opinion it just proves they are no better than any other car. And german manufacturers are in just as much trouble in this climate as the americans and japanese. Possibly the german manufacturers are in a worse position as there product is the most expensive. I think I read in the bbc news site that porsche bought 50% of vw group and are now in debt to the tune of 70 billion euros. The german government is guaranteeing the loans people take out to buy german cars aswell.
Oh time to turn rant mode off, sorry everyone, just get annoyed when people think bmw is so good when it is obviously not.

I was surprised that Honda didn't make it. The last time they pulled out they were at the top of the game and their engines were the biz.

.........if they had kept their name on the car for just one more season,it would all have been worthwhile.
-
So can i ask for the leftovers from them as they wont need em any more....I`ve still got the old beemer sat on the drive needing a new engine..... :-* :-* pretty please Herr fritz :-* :-* :y

I think they have said that they are going to concentrate more on ETCC and WTCC where the technology can be more easily applied to road cars, because the R&D element was not really happening between F1 and road cars (surprisingly enough ::))
Add to the fact they didn't reach their goals set a few years ago when they bought Sauber - I think they are cutting their losses.

BMW, like most car mass-market manufacturers, are not looking great financially, so cost savings are inevitable.
It is looking likely that Toyota in particular and maybe Renault may not take part next year.
-
I don't think BMW pulling out will make any difference to F1. Don't forget there are 3 new teams coming into F1 next year - Campos Grand Prix, Manor Grand Prix and Team US F1 which will more than make up the numbers. :y
-
They need to concentrate on road cars as they are currently outputing un-reliable over priced shite.....its time they got back to what they were doing 15 years ago which was much better.

Have they managed to fill the bruntingthorpe car park with BM's yet. ;D ;D

8-9 months worth of sales stored there about 3 months ago.....so got to be 6 months worth still there!
All with the artificle 4 week waiting list of course (probably takes that long to find them!) and a free layer of Olympus soot!
