Title: parking levy in notingham
Post by: feeutfo on 31 July 2009, 17:52:50
....for all who drive to work. Aim is to keep people out of their cars and pay for a new green tram service in the town, according to sky news if i understand it correctly. £250pa tax per parking space for all companys with more than 11 spaces. It will be left for businesses to decide weather or not to pass the fee on to employees.

Morons! I realise there is a traffic issue country wide which will only get worse but taxing people who pay tax(on wages)on top of tax(vat) on tax(fuel duty) on tax(road tax) on tax(company car tax)
And do so so that they can get to work in order to pay the tax in a first place is just beyond it all imho.
When will they stop harassing car drivers ? FFS!

Or....a good congestion busting idea? You can guess which way im leaning....

Trouble is Chris the whole country has latched on to the fact that the motorist is a cash cow; to be milked regularly whatever the logical situation is! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

will the council have to pay it's own levy for all it's own parking spaces.

what about the likes of asda/tesco etc etc that have hundreds of parking spaces ( staff park in the main carpark with customers).

just a thought

Manchester council were for some reason very disappointed that the conjestion charge was overwhelmingly (sp?) out voted. They really did think that they had a chance!

As you say we really do pay through the nose to keep our cars on the road. We don't need to have to pay to park on the work's car park! I'd love to know what kind of world these people live in. Could you imagine getting to work via public transport for an early morning shift? eg our local Metrolink doesn't even start running till 0600hrs  :-?

Its a sad state of affairs when millions are being poured into dualing the A46 and nothing into a public tram network.....and hence the council are forced to fund it via other means.

This bunch of monkeys have nothing in the way of a transport policy!

Makes me laught.  the gov spend money trying to stop the car trade going under, then offer the scrappage allowance to get older cars replaced by newer ones and them stab the motorists in the back to get some money back.

Course we all moan about this and other daft ideas on forums similar to this one BUT have you noticed that the streets are not clogged with actual protestors. I can't help feeling that the age of the protestor has gone. The onlyones you see are people "normal" people brand as hippies or commies or greens. Until normal people take to the streets the brakes will never be applied!

the way i see it...ultimately,too many people in too small a space. I dont mean in the town centre or on the motorway or doing the daily commute. I mean on the planet. We are too successfull for our own good, or for our own comfort at least. Have you been to London lately? Fairly impossible to get about above ground.
So, billion dollar question, whats the answer? Dont thinks its Trams frankly. Teleport machine bit nearer the mark....?

The answer. Well nature is pretty good at that. Some global epidemic that will make swine flu look pigging small. Growing food for everyone during the next ice age won't exactly be easy either.

David Dimbleby put it very well when he said that in his lifetime the population of the planet has tripled

Course hopefully none of that will be a problem during our (or our childrens lifetime) so in the meantime lets get buying and using a few more cars to commute ever further afield.

I wonder if the council will charge themselves for all the parking spaces they have?

Wouldnt surprise me if they are exempt somehow.... ::) ::) ::)

the company can decide whether to pass it on to employee's

they will decide not to....and put in on council tax for every one else to pay for them  >:(

There is something vaguely similar in Chester...companies can only have a certain amount of space for parking (even on their own land) which increases as you go out from the centre.

The Reading council offices are in the town centre on double yellowed main road surrounded on 3 sides by a pedestrian zone. When spotting a parking attendent booking cars on the double yellow but ignoring those parked on the pedestrian zone down the side, i asked why he hadnt booked the seemingly more serious offenders, he replied "they are council vehicles. They're cars they're land!"

The 3rd world is increasing population like mad, the west isn't.

China is careful too.
