Title: Firefox / google help
Post by: HolyCount on 02 August 2009, 11:42:01
For some reason my google search on Firefox defaults to the german site, so all my google searches are in german !!!  How do I get it to search google.com as opposed to google.de ???  If I enter the .com web address in the location bar I still get the .de site  :(

At the end of the area where you ttpe the are 3 rows of writing, if they are the same as the UK then the middle one is preferences and comes up with lanuages.

http://www.google.co.uk/preferences?hl=en

I managed to make mine do this by adding the German language and making it the top preference in Tools | Options | Content | Languages.

Can't see any other way to persuade it.

Hello HC
If you go to the google.de page next to the search bar you have three words.
your looking for Einstellungen ( preferences ) Click on it.
There you find "Sprache der benutzeroberflache" Set it to Englisch
Go down to " suchsprache" Click on "seiten in den folgenden sprache bevorzugen" and again on "Englisch"
Then down at the bottom of the page right hand side Click on " einstellungen speichern" You might get a box that says " diene einstellungen sind jetzt gespiechert" just click on OK ( you preferences are saved.)
and it should then always show in English.
the only thing is it is the german google so its main search will be germany then the rest.
Hope that helps you a bit. :y

You using a proxy?

Google's system automatically repoints you to it's 'local' site based on your calculated location

Not as far as I know ( but then I know very little net - wise!).  ISP is Sky and using Firefox --- this morning, and indeed for all the time I have used it, it has pointed to the co.uk site, this afternoon it decides we are german !
