Blimey, I am not surprised though.
I don't suppose much has changed since I was there in 1980 except a lot more vehicles and mobile phones. The roads were terrible. The main Moscow Leningrad road was two lanes and hugely cambered to cope with bad weather conditions. You were "safe" when the coach was in lane but you were hanging on for grim death, when you were "level" you faced a grim death as you were in the shared central overtaking lane.

I've done that road many times in a 44 tonner with a 52 foot trailer, most excellent fun in the overtaking lane with a 120ish year old man in an ancient Lada flshing his headlights because I was in his way ;D I was in a T cab Scania so I just kept going. He soon moved out of my way ;D ;D I always loved the Russian/Polish border, power mad idiots! Kept me there for 3 days once as I had a bonded load on, sealed to the hilt along with the paperwork being triple sealed, they accused me of everything from stealing arms to smuggling women out till they gave in and let me go on my way! Gotta love the Russians...
