The sooner he dies the better in my book, it would have been a better punishment to have refused him entry back into the country, as we all no he came back to get free medical care.
And what the heck are we doing letting his son into the country ? he is not British in any way.
On the day biggs dies I will have a small celebration.
-
Should have sent him to the medical doctor i had ,he would have been declared fit for work lol ;D ;D :y
-
He will be dead within the week.
-
The "utter 'dangle berries'" is the pathetic sentences handed out for murder, rape etc these days. Biggs wasn't even on the train.
Why waste taxpayers money keeping him locked up and on medical treatment anyway.
-
I think Mr Biggs lost all right to sympathetic concern when he escaped from lawful custody in 1965 with almost 28 years of a prison sentence to serve.
In the interim, before he returned to the UK in 2001, he lived a very acceptable lifestyle in a number of countries.
The utter 'dangle berries' lies in the way the gutless Jack Straw caved in when presented with some popular pressure.
-
He will get topped I reckon

it would be a very sad person topped him, nature is very close on his tail.
-
Like other people of his era, and his ilk, he would be better forgotton. He and his contemporaries were absolute amateurs compared to the criminals these days.
-
3 guards watching a bed makes no sense, at HM services (our) expense. Get rid....

Agreed Zulu :y
I find some of the things his son has to say utter 'dangle berries' too
Biggs's son Michael said: "Finally common sense has prevailed, you know, my father has done his time. When? He served less than two years before escaping to a life of luxury.
"I'm just very hopeful that my father can have another few months ahead of him in his life, or a few weeks, or whatever God decides to give him, so he can have a little bit of quality time with the family and die with some dignity." What a shame that the driver of the train wasn't afforded this privelege!
The lack of backbone shown by Jack Straw is one of many things that disgust me about this country. :-X

can i just correct something - whether you agree or disagree - Jack Straw refused to release Biggs, it was only when it became pointless and illegal to keep him locked up that he relented. the decision wasn't his, rightly it was determined on compassionate grounds.
now, who wants to live in a society without compassion?
i don't see how it serves us to keep a bedridden, dying man under lock and key, i'm sure the prison officers have better things to do than provide amateur healthcare too

hang on a minute here....
He robbed a train and stole some money, and got locked up for life.
A bunch of chavs beat an OAP to an inch of his life and they get an ASBO?
Constant examples from road wars of drugged up chavs blasting around towns in stolen cars.
Countless other cases of much worse crimes, and they get a slap on the wrist.
For fck sake get your priorities right!
Biggs did a first class robbery, no guns where used they just knocked the train driver on the head.
People who do this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1185088/CCTV-captures-chilling-moment-drug-fuelled-thugs-beat-OAP-death-walking-stick.html should be locked up for life.
Biggs is harmless, wishing him dead quite frankly, is disturbing and you need to question your motives for wanting that. >:(

I think the fact that he has been made into a celebrity in some quarters may be the reason for the animosity. I can't say I'm surprised.
If we abuse the law for donkey's years then change sides when we get ill or homesick, a lot of people who have been making a good attempt at obeying the law all those years can understandably get the raving hump.

Depends what you read into "never recovered from his injuries".
Everyone seems to regard Biggs as some sort of "lovable rogue". The fact is, he's a violent armed robber who has spent most of his life waving two fingers at our country and its' justice system, then came back for some free healthcare when it suited him.
And finally, from his deathbed, he's yet again waved two fingers at us, thanks to that idiot Straw. >:(

I agree Tunnie! :y :y :y :y
Let's have consistency here, if Biggs should be kept inside until he dies then why shouldn't those who do far worse things than him in our current age??
To put the facts straight, Biggs had no direct responsibility for the death of the driver Jack Mills, although two members of the gang, never officially identified, could have been. His injuries that day could have contributed to his death 7 years later. ;) ;)

I don't disagree Lizzie and Tunnie :y
People who have committed far worse crimes should be locked up until they die, like, for example, Myra Hindley (hopefully Brady will die in custody too).
The thing that riles with Biggs is the fact that he escaped to a life of luxury, effectively sticking two fingers up at this country but then comes crawling back for free healthcare. Then his son says that this country is treating him unfairly! >:( >:( >:(

Lizzie, I agree with you in theory. Sadly I have little confidence in the ability of our courts today to safely convict felons.
My feeling is that there are a lot of people banged-up today who are innocent and many more been acquitted who are guilty as sin.
At least I am confident that the train robbers under discussion actually committed the crime and one of them actually escaped illegally!

The following illustrates how contrite Mr Biggs was in the years following his escape;
http://www.anorak.co.uk/media/219235.html
A lawfully applied prison term should be served in its entirety and the passage of time following an interruption to the course of that sentence should not obfuscate the matter.
The incompetent manner in which this sorry matter has been dealt with is the real issue here. New Labour has created a system which bases most strategies and decisions on the back of a nee jerk reaction to whatever opinion seems to be strongest at any given time.
The stewardship of the Dept. of Justice by Jack Straw and preceding Secretaries of State has reduced this once great office to a laughing stock.
The sooner this incompetent bunch is out on their arses the better.
They're a disgrace to this nation

How long before Biggs makes a miraculous recovery now that he is free??
Sorry thats my cynical side! :)
