Just need to vent me spleen .. so please, bear with me.....
Over the last couple of weeks I have had numerous items in my watching list and some I have bids on, just end prematurely because the "item is no longer available for sale" or "has been sold elsewhere".
I might be stupid -- but I always let items run to the end when they have bids -- to be fair to the bidders.
It's flaming annoying to be gazumped and the item gets sold off ebay and sod the bidders who are interested in them !!!!
OK -- I will disappear back to my corner now .....

....an experience; sadly, shared by many (including I). :'(
I think 'we' just have to accept that with "human-nature" involved: 'things' will always be unfair. :-[
The anonymity and distance furnished by eBay does seem to bring out the worst in (some) sellers.
I note: generally, the good Sellers (remain) in the majority. :y

This is true :)
Just "lost" a trike I was after, which apparently was purchased "on the side", without regard to those who had taken the trouble to bid and try to win the item in the normal manner.
Caught me at a bad moment ... but I am proud of the fact that I deleted alll of my expletives prior to hitting the submit button on my post ::) ::)

Not for the first time and I'm sure not for the last I will say........never used Flebay.......never will.............too many shisters around for me to trust that process, and in my professional life I have had to deal with enough criminals to then deal these shisters, who could be one of the same!!!! ::) ::) ::) ;) ;)
-
I know what you mean Lizzie -- but I am one of those shisters ::) (cosmetics) Actually -- there are many bad apples on there -- but the biggest of the lot is ebay itself for making it so easy for them!

That I suppose HC is what really worries me! That lack of protection the customer, or even the seller, 'enjoyes' from the Fleabay system! The risk, for me anyway, just seems too great :o :o :o ;) ;)

Know how you feel Holy Count, had it done to me in the past to.
I do beliave that the rules are, once you advertise something, you're supposed to let it run and to the end, you can't say advertised else where in an auction, but can if it's a 'classified' fixed sale. But you're right, there are some out there that will advertise via ebay, then do 'outside' deals !!.
I've had bad experiences myself in the past. Especially with the likes of some, who in my mind are just plain insulting or cheeky, by saying they can get the same for thing less elsewhere, and willing to offer what they think the items worth, etc.
I learned early on, you don't bother with reserve listings (cost you more money anyhow as a seller), just put items on as a starting price which is the least you're willing to take, tell everyone that you're not going to end early, and stick to your guns !!.
I've had problems of late of some trying it on, so now I just say, "no" not ending early, if you're genuine then put a bid on it, and if they do fair enough. But a lot of time I get the typical "I'm genuine, really interested in it", etc, etc, and they still don't put a bid on it, then if it doesn't sell, have the gall to email after it's ended with another insulting offer !.
Ebay doesn't look after it's long standing customers, they say they care, but don't. Because there too busy looking after buyers all the time, and don't seem to be bothered with sellers feelings & problems. And the worse thing they decided was to get rid of the 'Sellers feedback' option.
To be honest, I'm actually thinking of ending my account soon.
Oh, and I thought once you place a bid on an item, the person isn't supposed to remove it without informing you first & you agreeing, otherwise there account could get locked out for dealing outside of ebay - ....... yeah, it's ebay. Rules apply to some !!!.
Sorry to go on, short of the long is... yeah I agree with you and know how you feel.
I'm shutting up now finally.

Likewise I am thinking of ending my long association with ebay ---- they have had a fair bit out of me over the years, but I am getting nothing from them apart from a place to showcase my product. The services and protections they offer are becoming, increasingly, a charter for the dishonest "buyer".
Strangely enough, we offer the same products, at fixed prices, on our website and have no problems at all.
Just waiting for website traffic to increase to the level that ebay can get dropped.

I only ever sold one item on ebay (a laptop0 and instantly a guy bid on it and tried to get the sale ended early, then outbid everyone else and then tried to get me to accept payment after he got himself a job. aaaaaagggghhhhhhhh.
I have a load of stuff I would like to sell after moving home but not really sure if ebay is the place to bother with. :-/

Like most companies that start out.
In the beginning, their good, then they get better, then then bit better & people are well chuffed with them. then they get even bigger..... & that's when the problems start, get too big, making huge profits, forget what customer care is, not interested in genuine complaints, and become like a one of those StarTrek Ferengi figures !!

On ebay, on the website, and in all walks of life I believe in treating others as I would like to be treated. Unfortunately in this world of ours that belief has cost me and put me behind the back stabbers and toe treaders ---- but, at the pearly gates (or the gates of Hades, whichever direction I travel in) I will at least be happy that I tried !!!!!
I might bear a passing resemblance to a Ferengi, but don't do business like one !!!!

Sorry, perhaps you misunderstand me, or perhaps I could have put it better initially.
I don't mean you are a Ferengi type, I'm on about "ebay" themselves.
I know there are people who have businesses on ebay, and like any actual shops that you would visit you get good and bad, you're right.
What I was trying to say is that "ebay" should take a few steps backwards, start to look after those that have a good track record, and those that treat customers well, and start to pick out the "bad apples" that are makin life difficult for the genuine ebayers out there.
Hope that clears it up, as I'm not having a personal go at you Holy Count, but at "ebay" .

That reminds me, got a kids vintage car for restoration to go onto ebay, took the photo's the other day. Been sat in my garage for years. ::)
I have done a bit of buying and selling over the years, no problems worth bothering about, guess I have been lucky......... :y :y :y

Never had mucn trouble with ebay only a couple of things, but I find it very good on the whole :y
-
Thats one of the reasons ebay ban the wording like "for sale elsewhere", but with so many auctions, they can't police every one.

Sorry Matt -- wasn't taking it personally. The written word often doesn't convey the humour intended :D :y I knew exactly what you were getting at :y

I must be very lucky on eBay, as with a couple of exceptions all my 930 transactions have been satisfactory. That covers selling parts, buying cars, and buying all sorts of things from CDs to self-tapping screws. Most of my transactiosn are Buy it Now rather than auction though, and that helps because most BIN listings are from bona-fide traders.
The oddest thing I sold was a stuffed fish, on behalf of a neighbour. He thought it was worth £4.99 and nearly threw it out with the rubbish. It turned out to be rare and collectible and sold for £500!
