I have a sky plus box , which has been replaced with an hd box now :y question for you, if i give old sky+ box to my father in law( who has a normal box ) will his sky card work in sky+ box ? :-/
-
any ideas ?
-
He'll have to contact Sky to have his card paired with the new box.
The recording function will not work unless he pays for the Sky+ service, £10 per month, but this isn't charged for in certain circumstances - type of package, amount of spend etc.

No, not straight away iirc.
I think you would have to get the card re-coded or paired to the box by sky. Which you would obviously encounter a charge.
-
Card pairing is free, and you can do it yourself if you plug the box in to your phone line.
-
So what do you gain with a sky+ box over a standard one, Just the ability to record programs and be a tenner a month worse off?

Yep that's Sky for you - blood from the stone - what?

In that case then I wont bother adding a Sky+ box to my bedroom. Robbing sods.

If you take multi-room the Sky+ fee is waived;
Sky Multiroom: £9.75 per month. Provides the same Sky TV channels as your main Sky TV subscription on a box in another room. You must subscribe to Sky TV throughout and an extra box is required for each Multiroom subscription. Each box you have must be connected to the same fixed telephone line at all times. To receive your HD subscription channels in another room, you'll need another Sky+HD box and HD Pack subscription.
Sky+: Sky+ box £49 when you join Sky TV. Sky+ box £149 for existing Sky TV customers or £49 if you take a new Multiroom subscription. Existing customers need to sign up to another 12 month minimum term for Sky TV. One £49/£149 box per household and not available if you already have Sky+/SkyHD/Sky+HD box. Sky+ box price up to £199 for additional boxes (Sky TV subscription required). Sky+ can store an average of 40 hours of programmes. Sky+ functionality requires a Sky+ subscription (free for Sky TV customers, or £9.75 pm) and two satellite feeds.

Upgraded to HD about 6 weeks ago, so looks like Icant have sky+ then.
As for the phone being connected they can KMFHA

If your father in law only has Sky then I would suggest that he won't ave a dual LNB which is required for Sky+. Sky+ box requires 2 signal inputs not one.
So I would guess that without upgrading the LNB and cabling he has nothing to gain! :y

You can get them cheap enough off Ebay, I did mine and then put the old sky box in the bedroom so I can watch Top Gear in peace ::)

That's the easiest way to do it Pete :y - and, best of all, it's an uncomplicated process :y :y

Agreed. When we moved house I took our dish down and put it back up at the new place myself (wasn't paying Sky £60 to do it). Not at all difficult! :y

Not quite.
Join the right forums and you won't be paying for anything that Sky has to offer if you live in the right area.
Live in the wrong area though, and while you'll have to pay Sky...you can easily get away with the recording side of things (again, once you become a member of the right forums).
