Title: The Law - Scanners
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 17 August 2009, 23:00:19
Saw a scanner in action a while back that picked up on wireless cameras and visduo senders etc.  Think they are 13cms and/or 23 cms One of whick is 2.4 dhz.

Are they legal, if so do they need a licence.

TIA.   :y

The 2.4 Ghz band (i.e WiFi & Bluetooth) is unlicenced radio spectrum.

So, no you dont need a licence to use it and if you do use it then its basically @ your own risk - hence the encyrpted bit of WiFi.

They should be as legal as the cameras etc they detect.

Edit: When you say "picked up" do you mean it detected the camera or allowed what the camera was seeing to be viewed ?

Could see what the camera could see.

In that case I reckon it would come under some invasion of privace law. Probably not illegal to own a scanner, but illegal to use.
