I see that another for sale thread is due to be deleted (Jamie is just jealous of caravans ::))
I can think of a Senator & an Astra that has had its for sale thread pulled because it's not an Omega or bits of.
Is there any reason why we couldn't have a classified section as long as it's not abused by the 'Traders'? As long as any dealings with members are amicable etc what harm is there?
-
there are many reasons for, and many more reasons against.
But it is being discussed.

Here's to hoping we do get one :y :y :y

I agree with Andy.
The rules of buying & selling in this world are quite simple....caveat emptor (buyer beware) and shouldn't be of any concern other than to those involved in the actual transaction.
-
I would imagine that it would have to have a high post count qualification (in 4 figures?)and possibly each member being restricted to a certain amount of adverts in a given period of time.O therwise it would probably need full time staff to run it. :-/

Seeing as we can't manage the existing For Sale sections without disproportionate moderating effort, I'm personally against the idea of a general For Sale section.
There are many other sites perfectly geared up to do this, without OOF getting distracted from its primary purpose.
These are my personaly views, not necessarily that of the Admin Team

Agree in theory, but I can imagine how many PM,s/texts/phone calls certain people could get because of it. ;)

To an extent, I agree but the reality is that OOF is a forum for the exchange of information and interest in the Omega marque at no great profit. Its not an online yellow/green pages where you pay to buy a copy of the paper to browse surplus bits and bobs that you may or may not want.
Cars for sale (thats Omega's, not 'vans) or Omega bits sale/wanted causes enogh consternation for folks without widening the net.
/my tuppence worth....

It would be childs play to "force" posters to read a basic rule set in any given section of this forum....and the rules could be very simple......."Admin ain't getting involved in any disputes, so don't walk in with your eyes shut"

Force them. That makes me laugh, a lot of members dont even bother with reading the basic rules. ;D ;D

Wouldnt stop people from constantly contacting them though. ;)
Personally I like the idea,I have some nice new phones for example that I would rather sell on here than fleabey, but its not me who wil have the headache oftrying to deal with it.
I was allowed to advertise a Ducati for sale quite a while ago, must have caught someone in a really good mood that day, although the forum was probably about half the size and half the headaches then. :)

The fact that the admins and mods are voluntary therefore have to fit their moderation time around work/home etc. and in the event of a slanging match any liabolous comments will make the forum owners liable as the owners. Do a google for a certain Volvo Owners forum that no longer exists and you'll understand why it shouldn't happen. Thats my tuppence.

You wouldn't advertise a coal scuttle in a gas appliance showroom.
Nobody in their right mind would think they have more chance of selling something not Omega related on here than on fleabay etc.
Omega cars and bits only. It makes sense :y
End of chat, as far as I'm concerned

I would have thought that the inclusion of such a section would hold more potential to destabilise good relations between the membership than all the recent conflict on political and other contentious matters put together.

Agreed. But you might also advertise appliances that used a different type of gas ... Calor/town gas Senator/Omega ;)
It was only a suggestion :y :y

I presume that Calor is better than town then. :y :D ;D

Generally speaking, I would agree. However the previous experiences of moderating the cars/parts deals where they went bad is an ample sufficiency, thenk you, without opening the field to mobiles, computers and games and other such bits and bobs thus amplifiying the area of responsibility outwith the acceptable. ;)

and to think after just moving home I need to have a sort out and a clasified section would have been ideal, I could have put the 1st 400/400 posts up for sale.

Personaly I would prefer it to be left as it is, being on the list for an uncompleted sale allready, Plus an item that seems to have been forgotton about and one on its way. I think the site shouls stay for Omega related items as it allready is.

Someone please explain to our resident "agent provocateur" that both vehicles run on the same fuels, but try fitting a bonnet etc from one to the other. ::)

I agree.
Thing is though not many buyer contacts.
I havent had one pm or e-mail from anyone here on my Omega.

I wasn't going to say anything about my for sale post being locked, but as this thread has been thrown into the mix I thought i'd say my piece. :D
To be honest I was slightly dissapointed that it was locked and scheduled for deletion, but I should of read the rules first and honestly didn't realise that is wasn't alowed so my apologies. I hold no grudges against the admin team as those are the rules. :y
I personally think there should be a section allowing these types of ads but also agree that it is probably too much work for the admin team to moderate.
So, would adding another forum member to the moderating team to handle the section be out of the question? etc.......
Either way whatever the admin team decide I will support. Admins know best! LOL ;D
Needless to say I won't bother mentioning this to my old man, don't wan't him to take it the wrong way! :(
