I am pleased to say another Kent Traffic Police clampdown on illegal motorists is in operation today in/ around Ashford (I will not say exactly where!), with many police cars, police bikes, and the mobile CCTV surveillance unit fully engaged parked up waiting to pounce 8-) 8-) 8-).
I love to see my friends in Kent Police doing this as I know that everytime they do many motorists without insurance, road tax, MOT's, licences and with dodgy vehicles are removed from the road!
Bloody, sorry, wonderfully great!! :D :D 8-) 8-)

Well in Kent it is! :y :y Although there will always be more to catch! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Great to see it Ms Z., boots on the ground is the only way to get the point across - as well as reassuring the public that they are getting something tangible for their money – in my view it's preferable to deal with a human being rather than a camera lens.:y :y
The amount of additional intelligence that can be gathered as a result of such operations is immeasurable ;) ;)

Oh I have no doubt they are nicking the drivers and seizing the cars, but I also have no doubt those same drivers are back on the road the very next day in another £200 shed.
Thing is, it's still statistically more financially viable to drive around in a £200 shed with no paperwork than what it is to be legal every year.
Add to that the lack of any real punishment when caught, and it's easy to see why some people prefer the illegal option.

That indeed does happen; as does the police apprehending the repeat offenders and the courts upping their penalties ;)
I, like almost everyone else I'm sure, would love harsher penalties, but that will come another day with a new political era. The days of liberal do gooders ruling the day will eventually come to an end.

Good point K, until provision is made for immediate custody and rapid appearance before a greatly enhanced court network - including night courts - the benefit of these efforts is greatly diminished. :y

The penalties they don't pay, because they're on benefits.

We did a similar multi-agency op not all that long ago - along with DVLA, VOSA, HMRC - with ANPR, Dogs, etc, cracking down not only on motoring offences, but other criminality such as drugs.
Despite many people's negative view of plod, I'd like to think it was worthwhile.
I agree with Zulu - as wonderful as technology may (or may not) be, you can't beat a physical presence for such things.

Be nice if it was a permanent or even semi-permanent thing though, not just every few months. Mind you, the weather has been nice, so I've seen a few out for a ride on their bikes today. ;D

I don't disagree :y

Be nice if every there were harsher penalties for those those that were caught, and on these TV Traffic Police etc making a song & dance about how it's having an effect - Really think so ??.
On the note of 'chopping their feet off ', wouldn't surprise me if they were then to claim 'disability benefit' ?!.

That's the one James - takes the human touch for a good result - it's how local knowledge is aquired, collated and acted on :y :y

But instead get more CCTV and Gatso cameras instead of more traffic police let alone standard PC's!! >:( >:(
-
Nearly every traffic op I can recall in my area, has been planned and ran entirely by volunteer Special Constables.
While this works really well - and always yields good results - I can't help but thinking regular PCs should also be given the capacity to do such things, and engage in more foot patrol, and the other things the community deem to be important.
Quite often PCs are viewed as lazy and everything else - this is usually not the case - instead they are often tied up with red tape. Most cops I work with are usually quite agitated they can't get out to do more patrols etc.
