Title: Feeling a bit cheesed off!!!
Post by: LJay on 19 August 2009, 23:50:21
Seems to me that we are all getting upset and being made to feel guilty over swearing when we all know that the comments were aimed at Killerwatt, for his post that openly flouted the word filter!
Yes I swear apallingly for a woman, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna feel guilty about it!
Why are we pussy footing round this anti-social and unnecessary being???

No one is asked to feel guilty.  All thats asked is a bit of respect for each other without coming across as the heavyweight no neck in a tracksuit on the corner with the pitbull with spikey collar that feels the need to be confrontational at any and every opportunity.......

Dont understand how anyone could be scared of someone on the internet. :-/
Also dont understand the demand to ban someone you dont like.
My tuppenceworth, for what its worth,20 watt  so far doesnt "get" the spirit of OOF,but nor did I when I joined,I calmed down a bit after a while and he might too.I think he has got some thing s to learn, but he aint stupid.I hope that doesnt come across as patronising, its not meant that way, just an honest opinion.

I also believe that if he or anyone else  goes too far beyond what most of us find acceptable it will be dealt with.Anyone remember Stuart30 ? ;)

The fact that I dislike him is irelevant in this debate!

Whilst I don't want to get personal, KW recently gave me some advice with was very useful and productive :y
What I have noticed recently is a quieter forum for banter and a little more aggression in some postings.
I have had the 'This is a Car Forum' response whilst posting in Gen Chat, I just ignored it. I worry that things get so serious and personal that the forum will loose it's community spirit, which is increasingly likely given some of the recent threads and baiting of the Admins.  I am no sycophant, just enjoy the banter and the practical help when needed. :y

To be honest 20watt makes me laugh, although some of his choice words are not ones I would use on here, although I don't think I swear on here :-? I do at home and when with others that also swear, but have you noticed how you don't swear in the company of others that don't?
I find it easy to slip up whilst in conversation, but can't see how you can slip up whilst typing!! :-?

Basically if there was a forum guideline and if it was not adhered to, action was taken, there would be no issue.
I have to say that often I find myself thinking "WHAT ?!?!?" to a KW posting, but I've also  often thought "yep, fair point there" on others.

I wont express my full thoughts regarding KW on here, as I don’t really have anything positive to say, and don’t think that its necessary.

I’m not saying that he shouldn’t be aloud on here (far from it infact), but I do think he should think a little more before he posts lets say!

Anyway, I will leave it at that! :y

I think Nick you should try to identify more closely what is Bickering.
If the forum was like Stepford Wives it would be a boring place to be.
The fact of the matter is there are some that are far to serious that dont seem to realise when someone is joking..... there is a difference between having a joke and been down right rude

he has not said anything nasty to me or sarcastic as to offend me so i have no complaints. some of his advice has been good, as to being scared of him,  that will never happen as my site manager found out 3 years ago, and  im sure others will say the same. i cant say that there is anyone on this site that i dislike as im not easy offended. i can give back just the same. i can be a bad tempered person sometimes but theres a line you have to draw with everything. i come on here for advice and to have a good giggle, i dont mind the pi$$ taken out of me but i do not like myself or my family being insulted in a way to make me angry. if i upset someone i will apologise to them by pm and to the whole of the site.

the arguments of 2 people always affect everyone and should be dealt with privatley and not on a thread that turns into a heated debate.

Swearing, I try not to do it especially infront of women although the odd swear word can be directed at my wife during the heat of an arguement. I do swear if i'm with a group of blokes, don't know why, just do and I have had the odd swear on the forum but nothing to bad and if i've offended then i'm sorry.

On the subject of 20watt, I try not to form an opinion of someone until i've met them as whats said on a forum can be taken out of context.

This forum is a great place for advice, discussion and plenty of banter.

IMO there is no need for aggression and that I think is where KW trips up. Almost every post I read of his is aggressive, arrogant and has a I know everything better than anyone else kind of tone to it.

The guy is entitled to an opinion but doesn't need to be so arrogant about it.

He doesn't scare me, I just can't be doing with know it alls!!!!  :-X

If you all keep on talking or reacting when someone does or says something you only give them more fuel to carry on doing it.
So just dont react to it.
There is no need to be scared of anyone, there are more than enough friends that will help if needed on the forum.
Everyone needs a bit time to find his or her place in the forum / life, some just need a little longer.
I agree some take it a bit to far, but they will soon find out that they wont get very far with such an attetude.
so lets just be like it was before all this nonsens started and HAVE FUN.

That my oppinion and sorry about the spelling :y

Why should any mature adult ever be scared to 'confront' any other seemingly (despite an apparent agressive 'I know it all' feel to many of their posts) mature adult?

None of the Admins are 'afraid' of anyone, but we won't just ban people we don't get on with.  I personally have a thing where I won't ban anyone I don't like, as I feel my own feelings may cloud my otherwise normally sane (ish) judgement.

This is a sizable community, and I know their is going to be a proportion of people I won't get on with, and a handful I would class as good friends. Thats life, no matter if its an online community, a work community or a social community.

To be honest, currently, I have far more serious and worrying things to deal with as an aftermath of my online activities than any bickering on this forum. All the Admin team want the bickering to stop, and to return this place to a pleasant place to visit.  Is it any wonder that small factions within OOF have set up their own mini forums because they were having issues with other 'groups' on OOF?

H21's request was for everyone just to be more aware of the language used in their posts.  Not sure if his post was aimed at anyone in particular, and he has far more important things on his plate than me ringing him to find out.

Personally, I don't think it was aimed at anyone in particular, it was, imho, just a timely reminder for everyone, even if it was possibly caused so recent posts  :-/

Ok, so we have established that we are not scared of him, so, how come we all sat back and got our knickers in a knot about H21s language observations (some people getting quite upset and taking it personally) when all that needed saying was Killerwatt pack it in and be nice! :-/

Beats me!!! >:(
H21's request was for everyone just to be more aware of the language used in their posts.  Not sure if his post was aimed at anyone in particular, and he has far more important things on his plate than me ringing him to find out.

Personally, I don't think it was aimed at anyone in particular, it was, imho, just a timely reminder for everyone, even if it was possibly caused so recent posts  :-/

Ok!  :-X
