To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last. Date: 20-08-09
I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on my girlfriend and me, threatening our lives.
You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings.
I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.
First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment when I drew my pistol after you took my Jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.
My girlfriend had just bought me that for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening.
You must agree that it was a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, wasn't it?
I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from bare footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].
After I called your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as four other people's in the gas station on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!
I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Gos, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]
I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the kerb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.
Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what's going on with that?
Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).
In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.
Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.
Have a good day!
Thoughtfully yours,
Alex
P.S. Remember this motto : An armed society makes for a more civil society!

Great! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Put's me in mind of those famous Dirty Harry words of , loosely:
"Do you feel lucky punk? Well do you? Now I expect you are asking yourself does he still have any bullets left in this Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world. Well, do you feel lucky punk?"

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Sorry to be a killjoy but if this was a true story, seeing as we're dealing with a mugger, the card used may well have been stolen, along with the money given away and there was obviously a huge bill run up on "somebodys" mobile phone. As for the vandalising of the "pimp mobile", who's to say that wasn't some average Joe's pride and joy show car that took months of overtime to pay for ?
Sorry, I don't buy into these feel good "true stories". Most have an underlying message. This one appears to be by a pro-firearms organisation or certainly someone in favour of the American peoples right to bear arms. Designed to rouse the "Good versus Evil, take no cr@p, "Make my day !" attitude. Too many Dirty Harry style references. "That made his day!"when refering to the homeless man and the "You must agree that it was a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, wasn't it?" ("..this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off").
As for "The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.)." ;D
Hello? Hmm..someone's not quite up to speed on how quickly and accurately a mobile phone can be traced, even when that "long chat" has ended. If the number is known and the phone is switched on, it can be pin pointed.
Me ? Cynical ?? ::)

i agree with turk - this story (i know it's not real) left a bad taste in my mouth - actually - i'd quite like to slap the guy if i met him
statistically whats more likely to happen is that the gun gets taken off "dirty harry" and used against him
the mugger, having taken what he needs, now ditches the knife and mugs the next victim with a gun
this is known as escalation and its idiot right-wing gun nuts that are to blame with their ludicrous right to bear arms
didn't appreciate the racist undertones either
so i'll also apologise for being a killjoy on this one
sorry :(

I'm a firm believer of fighting fire with fire, however I think in this instance it should be taken in the context it was posted in.......a bit of fun. ::)

That's a fair old generalisation there bj :o
Aside from the obvious humour intended by the piece this seems to have excited some prickly response which I find quite surprising.
On a more real-world point however, I would suggest that such decisions regarding the right of a victim to escalate an incident to the point where the mugger is the object of attention rests solely with the victim. Is it being suggested, sotto voce, that victims should submit in the face of such cowardly and unsocial behaviour? I would be inclined to use whatever weapons I had to hand to defend myself.
There seems to be a consensus amongst the left that such perpetrators should be allowed to behave in this fashion without sanction, citing under-privilege and poor social opportunity as being the prime motivators for it.
The prime reason that such behaviour exists in this country is the unrealistic concern of the bleeding Trendies from the left, more than adequately propped up by the gutless machinations of the superficial institutions created by New Labour and the nanny state being engineered by Brussels, giving a veneer of understanding to these unacceptable acts.
It's about time that the perpetrators of such acts were confronted otherwise the streets will not be safe to walk and it’s also about time that ordinary decent people stood up for their rights to go about their business without interference from these feral and useless individuals, always trying to get something for nothing.
Forgive me if that sounds like a rant, it isn't really and it's not directed at bannjaxx whose analysis on most things I am reasonably comfortable with.
In my capacity of being a whore of the state for longer than I care to remember, I have direct experience of the trauma these acts place on the victims, not only at the time, but in the aftermath.
If this problem is not addressed robustly any of you reading this piece might well be the next victim. The statistics to back that up, are far from a generalisation.

I think this needs to be kept in perspective of a bit of fun!
I also agree that we need to start standing up to the scum who are ruining our society! (such as the idiots who wanted my car keys a few months ago >:()
What brought things home to me was working for the NHS, when I first did self defense and break away training many years ago, we were taught techniques to disable and physically hurt an attacker with as little damage to ourselves as possible. When I was last required to train, things had changed so that you must not harm your attacker or use any kind of force against them. The example given was if they had hold of your hair you would simply push their hand on to your scalp to stop them pulling and shout for help, remaining in that situation till help arrived! How things change! :( >:(

Please remember this was posted as a bit of fun and I also am suprised at some of the responses and the depth in which this piece has been analysed! Racial undertones!! - never struck me so - methinks a bit too oversensitive reaction.
However on a serious note I fully agree with Zulu77's comments (has that user name got racial undertones?? ;)) and would also "use whatever weapons I had to hand to defend myself" and my family if threatened.

I thought it was a brilliant postand took in in the way it was intended, as fun.
As the forum is growing and not every one understands some of our mentalities (mine included ::) ) Then maybe it's time to sujest the use of the title icons as a minimum or a sub tittle in bracketsi in this case may have been appropriate.

I will just add, dbug has used the smilie icon on this post. :y :y :y :y

Not aimed at Skruntie... but isn't at more like about time people on here grew up and got a life!
I have to say this (part of the) forum is turning into a pile of crap! not the fault of the admins who dedicate there time (and money) to make this facility available, but to the people on here hell bent on taking offence, causing offence or flouting the rules of what is someone else's playground.
Will you all be happy when either the admins think sod-it and turn it off, or the normal majority think sod-it and leave, leaving a dead space where there was once a nice atmosphere!
Sorry Rant over, but I am getting really sick of the way things are going here!

Nothing taken personally, but this subject has risen its head before. All that has been asked over a period of time and posts (Keeping it Simple) is for a description of content in the header/title. It was agreed by most that the descriptive icons covered most.
There have been plenty of comments regards NWS posts which started off as Not Work Safe and I seemed to have made into Now Woman Safe in most of my posts.
My pet hate is the posts that have the stupid scary scream at the end that make people jump, which offends me on behalf of those with weak tickers
TheBoy has often commented on the lack of decription or meaning in the titles. Allthough this post could be decribed as one of those I feel it only fair to mention that dbug is one of only a few members to utilise the smilies.

When threads develop like this from a bit of fun, then I just want to give up!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) >:(
There is far more to worry about in this world than a bit of adult comic humour! ::) ::) ::) ::) :D :D ;) ;)
If I want a good serious read then I buy the Daily Telegraph not log in to the OOF! Outside of the car stuff it is for lighthearted fun and the expressing of views away from regular life 8-) 8-) 8-) ;) ;)

OK i was being a bit touchy this morning perhaps? generally i'm not a morning person :y
apologies for getting my knickers in a twist, i was guilty of taking life too seriously there for a second - but i do enjoy the way everyone has a different viewpoint - it's one of the great things about the OOF
ps Zulu - i'd started a big piece on the fall of western civilisation and the causes of crime both social and economic - but i'm afraid i bored even myself ;D
and for all you arguing it was just a bit of fun, i think you're right - i hate when someone takes offense where none is intended - this time i'm the one who was being a bit precious - next time i'll let the meds kick in before posting ;):-[

cheers zulu, i'll take a mulligan on this one
normal service will be resumed ;D

In the words on the great Holy Count I was a bit 'up myself' when I replied in those terms and at such length.
Forgive me, it's difficult to break away from officialdom.
Should it happen again, in inappropriate threads, please feel free to slap me down like the hoary old git that I am.
I thank you :y

Excellent :y very entertaining :D ;D :D ;D

Maybe I should have confirmed I had noticed the Smiley and was aware it was posted for entertainment only, but whoever fabricated the initial story meant it to be taken as true, and those are the muppets that get my goat.
The P.S says it all, "Remember this motto: An armed society makes for a more civil society!"
(Although that's not quite as subtle as most underlying messages in these "true stories" :D)
Ok "Alex", let's re-cap on what you've done for a more civil society so far today: You've run up a huge bill on what was probably some other victims credit card, another huge bill on someones mobile phone. Caused heart ache for a mother, who now thinks her son's a criminal. Even more problems for that someone when his "Momma" gets hold of him after he's already being mugged. Vandalised someones car. Created an even higher national security status...and threatened the President of the United States of America.
Way to go buddy! What a role model. Yessiree, the all American hero.
When you look at it from a reality angle, comments like "If only it was true !" make me extremely glad we have no "Right to bear arms" this side of the pond.
As for standing up against crime, if the odds are in your favour, hell yeah, give 'em something they'll never forget (in self defence of course ::)) but it's rarely the case. Credit card and mobile phone accounts can be de-activated, lives cannot be re-activated.
