Not so bad then, at least you've not voided your warranty.
Have you checked all the connections internaly?
You may have disturbed some thing ;)

Buy yourself an X-Clamp kit, it isn't going to work for much longer before you get the 3 red lights.

wots that then? :-/ :)

The 3 red lights is GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) failure.
What actually happens is that the (surface mounted) GPU comes away from the mainboard when the heat builds up (the GPU goes "dry joint")
The modded X-Clamp doesn't cure the actual reason for the fault occuring (the mainboard ends up being "flexed" when the console is assembled), but it helps to alleviate it by quite a margin.

will look into it thanks.this one doesnt get used much but my son is on his 3rd one.Had it replaced by MS once but that one just produces a frozen screen as soon as its switched on now.
no red lights etc,so bought him a new one,but if its possible to fix the broken one might flog it and get some dosh back.

The modified X-Clamp kit is £5 and a bit of change, and takes about 30 minutes if you are confident.
If you don't have any electronic experience, I'd advise you to pass it on (with the X-Clamp kit fitting instructions) to somebody who does.
-
I would take it into work and ask an expert. There are more electronic eggheads than you could shake a stick at,which is handy as I struggle with wiring a plug. :y ;D

That's fine, just prep them up that the fitting instructions include running the X-Box up for 15 minutes or so without any heatsink fitted to the GPU...while you have the entire console wrapped in a towel (so the surface mount GPU solders itself back in to place)..

I knew that..................... ;D ;D ;D.....thanks. :y
wots a heatsink and a gpu ? ;D ;D
