IIRC, if they're using the LTI 20-20, they can get you from 1000m.

Whether they can form a prior opinion of your speed before lasering you at that distance is another matter...  >:(

The party line is that the requirement to be visible is only aguideline... fingers crossed for you mate?

With a bit of luck, they'll have spilt their coffee in their lap, or been too engrossed in the paper...

14 days dreading the postman then...

No.. The old-fashioned headlamp flash from people going the other way will limit it to those who are not looking where they are going AND speeding.  Should knock it down to about 75%.  :D

Is/Was there a roadside piccy of a camera in place, by law they have to advertise, they might be there. Tho' i believe it doesnt have to be a fixed sign, a temp one that they take away with them suffices.

If it was there, sounds like it would have been just a passing blur ;D

I recently got caught by the man in the speed camera van from over 600 metres away, it comes up on the photographic evidence - they now take moving footage of you driving instead of the just taking a pic.

6 points and a £330 fine :(

That can get you into trouble too! 'perverting the course of justice' i think, not sure though.
I know people who have been cautioned about it! >:(

no rd sign warning you of the camera, just 2 doors sticking out of the bushes. with a camera poking out the back.

Maybe they were just using ANPR to check Tax, Insurance, MOT, etc. Would they need a sign then? :-/

No requirement in law for the sign, sadly - they can choose to ignore it if they please, as its in the "guidelines"...  >:(

This is how the BASTARDS get away with this money making SCAM. Taken fron the Nottingham County Council WEB Site

Mobile speed cameras. Traffic safety cameras may be in use on the following casualty reduction sites across Nottinghamshire for the period indicated.

In addition you are advised that speed cameras may be in use on several sites across the County that are subject to complaints being received by the Police about speeding traffic. Due to the ad hoc nature of these complaints it is impossible to publish this activity in advance. This work is permitted within the project guidelines and the conspicuity criteria allowing the use of cameras is met.
Nothing as been printed on the WEB site for two weeks! and when I asked why not they pointed out the safety issue, 'dangle berries' it is purely to make money as we all know. They position themselves where most people drive to the road conditions (i.e downhill on an open road etc and not one eye on the speedo. >:(
I hope the postman doesn't call.

I agree, and while I've never been caught by a camera, I'm still glad the law makes provision for me to use a smaller plate and one that spreads over 2 or more lines (which means human intervention is required).

My good old sat nav lets me know when the speed cameras are near, it also detects the mobile units. :y

I'm afraid your sat nav is only as good as the database it has stored where speed cams are concerned (and that includes the mobile ones).

Just got the Tom Tom GO 940 Live, but my old 910 was just as good as long as you do the regular downloads which updates the fixed speed camera locations around europe, it also picks up the mobile ones.

Mine does as well, I was simply saying don't rely on it because it's very easy for a new camera site to make an appearance before the manufacturer has updated the database.

That's always been a dodgy road though Rich, i remember when i worked for Securicor in Stockley close before they put in the traffic lights and stopped the right turn there that one Saturday one of our crews in a LWB Transit was crossing the road to turn right when it was hit in the side by i think a Granada doing about 70 mph turning it on it's roof!!! Luckily none of our blokes were badly hurt but the rear guard was knocked sparko and because there was a time lock on the door in to the rear and the fact that it was upside down they couldn't get him out for a while so was lucky it didn't go up in flames as he would have been cooked alive :o.

Slighty related issue....

We live off a road that has been 40mph for many many years....

they reduced it to 30 mph late last year, a small "the speed limit has changed" sign at each end, and removed all the 40 signs....

fine, that should be enough, no signs, plus steetlight intervals means 30.

trouble is, everyone 'knows' its 40, so noone alters there speed.

Had it been me, a few more signs would have gone up, and replaced the 40's for 30's as a reminder.

but no.

so......sledgehammer to crack a nut time...

we now have these hi-tech flashing 30 signs when you go past them too fast.

Im sure a lot of money could have been saved here  >:(

The A452 through Streetly (near me, comes under Walsall CC) was 40mph with speed safety cameras every 100yds or so.

One morning, at about 10:00am, they changed all the signs to 30mph, and adjusted the cameras, with no warning!

They were knocking them off like nine pins for the rest of the day >:(
