Title: P***ed off with new tax hike...SO
Post by: sara1983 on 30 August 2009, 23:53:15
Love my omega and refuse to get another that is not a vauxhall only problem new car tax prices are rediculous. I dont know about anyone else but my Omegas CO2 emissions are nowhere near what is stated on the DVLA's tax band of £225 per year at the moment...Im thinking, how does a 1.9CDTI engine sound 150bhp tunable to 190+ and will be cheaper to run and tax plonked where my 2.2dti sits at the mo???
Opinions please.....

Look at the following S.  Band K should be applicable.

I paid £118 for 6 months begrudgingly...for 2010 the price goes up again to £225 for the year thats why im thinking of changing the engine so tax band is lower as emissions less and i want to keep the car till death do us part...

I think it will end up costing more to change the engine than to pay the tax.  :-/

The engine i can get for around £1000, the only problem may be the ECU but with vauxhalls most things are compatible from car to car...yes outlay greater to start with but im getting a cheaper to run Omega in terms of tax and diesel consumption. Vaxhall do not have a more modern car of the Omega size for my family and im not buying an Audi A6!!!!!

...exactly Nick but looking at Sara's figures of £118 for 6 months - £236 for 12 months surely with the new rate of £215 he'll be paying less will he not :-/

You may be giving yourself undue trouble here Sara.  Is the cost of obtaining and fitting such an engine -if it is at all possible - really going to save you money in the long run especially as you're running a diesel at the moment?

I think Sara's a "she", Zulu! :-[

Yes, but to my mind the cost-saving is marginal. To recoup the £1000 outlay for the new engine, you'd need a significant number of tax savings over the years to make it worthwhile. Additionally, the engine mod. would result in higher insurance premiums, I would think. :-/

Is there a RWD car which uses the 1.9 engine?
never heard of anyone trying this swap, dont know if it would be feasible.I would do a lot of careful research before jumping in. ;)

Forgive me Sara if you're female, I referred to you as 'he' in an earlier post. :-[

I'm also wondering if that engine could be fitted into an Omega with any degree of ease :-/ :-/

I reckon it would take a fair bit of engineering at the very least Albs :y

Is it not also the case that even if the engine is changed the vehicle will still be taxed on the CO2 output stated in the V5? :-/ :-/

Why not make the car dual fuel...get it registered on the docs as such...and save money on fuel and road tax??

I assumed it was already a diesel ? :-/

Edit.avatar says 2.2dti,guess the op just wants a smaller engine.Probably better off selling it and buying a duel fuel. :y

That's a way to do it M but would she/he still not have to change the engine as it's a diesel at the moment?

Correct, and the only way you can get the V5 changed is to obtain a letter from the manufacturer stating what the CO2 levels are.
