ah but I didn't. I was more concerned that the thing would drop into the sea. The tax disc is out of date and on the wrong side of the bike too, and the pilot bulb is bright blue, but apart from that it's legal.  :o

I see the Wightlink ferries in the background - I was on them at the weekend. Were the pictures from Portsmouth?

Gimme £2K and you can ride my 1975 Z1 away.

It's taxed, tested, and laying 147 horses down at the rear wheel.

:o What's it had done ?   The Z1-B was 82bhp as standard.

Wiseco 1135 top end, 38mm Mikuni Flatslides, K&N's, Harris works pipe, 50 shot NOS kit, JMC swingarm, 3 spoke mag alloys, various other bits replaced with aluminium to lighten it further.

I ran consistent low 9's at the Bulldog this year, with my fastest time being 9.05 @ 152mph.

Its also very cheap for a Z1,I used to hanker after one of those when they first came out but I wasnt quite old enough to ride afford one.

It's about the right price for one that is no longer standard.

I've ground the pegs at speeds of 70-80 through the twisties and there is no sign of it wanting to let go.

What probably scares me more than anything is the brakes, it's still on standard discs/calipers and they are next to useless when compared to modern day stuff.

Pushing things a bit still refering to it as a Z1 then  ;D

Everything I build is built properly, and it's built to last Turk.
I'd rather have something over-engineered by 200%, rather than have something that's only 99%.

As far as I'm concerned, you either do the job properly, or you don't do it at all.
I know that's an alien concept to most people these days, but that's just me.

So I take it a pair of billet 6 pots are on the list then :y

Brakes are boring,they slow you down. :y :D ;D
Title: Re: My 30 year old bike.
Post by: KillerWatt on 03 September 2009, 20:49:28
I've worked it out to 4's on the front, a 2 pot on the rear, and larger discs.
Larger discs will increase the braking area, as well as run cooler...hence I can keep the stopping power on for longer without the risk of fade due to overheat.

6's would be nice, but that's way, way, way overboard for the bikes weight (I'd end up locking too much through lack of weight).

I used to have a KZ650 US import. Found documentation in it from California.Looked great, but was never the same after it knocked out the big ends, then had a 720 kit fitted, then fractured a piston liner and wrecked the crank. :(

this one has brakes too as I don't believe in doing things 99 percent  ;D

The XS brakes are wooden but effective. The BB ones are awesome.
