How the Department for International Development spends
its our money.
"£1.2 million given to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) since 2003 for activities including: lobbying, hiring new staff and an “international buffet and wine” event to celebrate “International Women’s Day” in the UK. DfID also paid the TUC to hold lessons in how to apply for DfID funds.
£300,000 to the National Union of Teachers (NUT) to “enable them [teachers] to become global agents of change”.
The creation of fake NGOs such as “Connections for Development” (CfD), supposedly a forum for black and ethnic minorities to engage “on issues relating to international development.” DfID created and is the only donor to CfD, providing it with £600,000 in its first two years, yet an independent review questioned “the purpose of the organisation.”
£10 million spent flying poor Brits to poor countries to work for free.
The report concludes: “The money DfID is wasting in this year alone could in principle treat 230 million people suffering from malaria,”

This is OUR money they are wasting. In the light of possibility of purchasing the water purifiers mentioned in the other thread, throwing away cash on an "international buffet and wine" event to celebrate "international womens' day" (what??) is borderline criminal in my book. >:( >:( >:(
What IS going on?

Nick, our wonderful government has a duty to ensure that these vital elements in our great nation are taken care of - nay - nurtured.
Appearance to those abroad - who know nothing of the real content of this government - is everything, plus the fact that it's easier to tend to the creampuff issues than it is the real and very unattractive nature of the modern Britain that New Labour has largely been responsible for creating.
What a bloody crew!!!

OK Z if you insist.I actually believe that trade unions can have a very relevant role in the industrial life of a country, providing they are run by intelligent people who look after the interests of their members and not power crazed commies.Having said that to provide taxpayers money to them especially when it should have gone to feed the hungry and provide medical help etc, for people in the developing world is rather outrageous. Its fraudulent, morally wrong and whoever in whitehall was responsible should be in a cell, but they wont be and they know it ,and thats the most maddening thing about this whole rotten business. >:( >:( >:( >:(
sorry couldnt help it.every day I promise myself I wont get involved in the politics threads but Im just a natural gobsh1te. :-[ ::)

I know its fashionable to knock the Mail, but I will admit to being an avid reader.I think that Nickbat,Zulu and myself should set ourselves a challenge - we wont rest until we have converted Bannjaxx to being a Daily Mail reader. :D ;D ;D ;D.
