oh lordy its getting worse! we are even now turning on each other. just seen on breakfast am that police are asking for "speed watch volunteers" to "police" speeding drivers at various spots. ::)
they are supplied with a cheaper speed radar and a voice recorder. they have no cameras or legal rights but can record the reg of a speeding vehicle and report it to the police, who in turn send you a warning letter. :-?
hypocrites, i bet none of these "volunteers" have driven at dead on 30 in their village. or more likely never had a sodding car. >:(

We could do with a few around our estate, crazy the speed some people drive.

Even here in rural Scotland we get the idiots racing down the road. Cutting across to another main road to shave off another couple of seconds. :o
Life is to short, do the racing on the track.
And before all the posts yes i am ashamed that i have been caught for speeding through built up area. Now have hopefully learnt my lesson. :-[ :-[ Seen some horrendous accidents not only caused by speed but more than likely lack of proper control.
Seems that most are the company car brigade who take great delight in getting up to 0-60 in the shortish time. Even seen them recently talking on the mobile while they are doing this stunt.
Also the 'good old boys' on their tractors dragging large trailers along.
Looks as though the local council is going to put in 'Speed calming measures', all that is going to do is give them more of a challenge. Bu**er up the suspension and the like and for us who pay for our own parts more expense. :'(
i do not agree with volunteer speed watch for the following. Do the alleged speeders, having found out that the charge was put forward by lay people, have a case to challenge the charge? What sort of training are the volunteers going to get and what about the calibration of the equipment?
Here is another case of policeing on the cheap.
You always think where are the police when you see something,i.e. 'racers along the streets'.
The other night saw a racer, baseball cap on back wards, sound system blasting the doors off completing for the exhaust note. Take off from traffic lights in local town. Over takes car in front within short distance and starts to accelerate. Takes a corner where a traffic car was lurking.
The look of surprise on the racer was unbelievable as the traffic car with blues threads through the traffic and stops them. Mine, and the other motorists, thoughts were at last answered.

I find them annoying, both speed check wallies and boy racers.
Taking out boy racers is great fun. They don't like 15 Y/O cars doing it - even if 15 Y/O car is lighter, more powerful and top model has won RAC rally.
Any V6 Omega will deal with most boy racer cars, with the added feature of making them wonder if it was a copper ;D

We had some in the village up the road a couple of years back.
I had gone past a police camera van on the dual carriageway a bit quick, so had spent the next couple of weeks waiting for the brown envelope. Then, just when I'd nearly forgotten, one dropped through door with a Northamptonshire Police franking mark on it. Wasn't me though, it was Mrs TheBoy speeding through the village ;D

i'm gonna be honest, i drive a little over the limit most of the time, but to a degree, a decent driver tends to know when they can and cant push the pedal a little further without being dangerous
i'd be tempted to do this "speed watch" if there was cash in it for me!

id rather volunteer for a noisy dickhead watch, ya cant drive onto my estate without the mandatory pumping up of the bass- make my blood boil sometimes especially at 01.30 >:(
