Title: Is this a phishing site?
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 21 September 2009, 20:46:47
I came home, to be confronted by SWMBO:

"Why did you block me on MSN for 5 minutes on 7th May 2009?"

 :D

Absolutlely do not recall doing so.

Anyhow, it turns out she has visited the site:

http://www.my-mates-blocked-me.com/

This fills me with concern -

* Firstly, it's not a Microsoft / MSN affiliated site, you can see by the domain!

* Secondly, she has put her hotmail user name and password into it - potentially submitting her email details to a third party who could do anything with her account?

* Thirdly, it has "secure site" and a padlock on the page - but no padlock on the browser. It's not running over SSL / HTTPs, which suggests to me it's bluffing.

Assuming I am correct and people agree - please reassure SWMBO that she should change her login details, and not trust information from third party sites....

"It must be ok, because it says secure on there"

Yeah, right......  ::)

I reckon it's a phishing thing or simelar.... designed to trick people into sharing their details?

My golden rule is NEVER to give my pasword to any one, especialy a third party website.

There are far too many web sites linking to other web sites, Face book is one of them and doing friends seaarches through yahoo an msn.

Just dont do it, and if any doubt at all at least chnge your password.

I can't think why

She is already f**ked.
Change the password NOW, and make it alpha-numerical at the very least.

The suggestion you think you are getting is correct.

See above re: login details.

On a side note though, I do have a bridge for sale if she is interested  ;)

Get it changed now. And make sure she emails everyone in the contact list warning them.
