Well after a much overdue launching "Pen-gooin" has finally seen her first outing in the water. I launched her today in the local canal under motor only. Next weekend I test the rigging and how she goes under sail.
What it took:
Set of plans off www.boatplans.dk
5 sheets of marine plywood
20L Epoxy resin
60m fibreglass tape
20 of 30x10x2500 pinewood
1L Wood stain
2L Epoxy pigment
10L Marine varnish
Plus other various marine chandalry
a buttload of various tools
3 stitches in my right hand
200 pairs of latex gloves
4 bottles of vigegar (for epoxy removal from skin)
1 bottle of port for launching :y
Here are the pics of one very happy muppet and a boat built in his garage:

Nope just been scoffing some buritos, although the thought has crossed my mind :y
Well I started about 2 years ago but work has been a major PITA so basically I cut the wood in tidworth, assembled the hull in Germany, and finished it off in Aldershot. I went to Iraq halfway through and not to mention the work load getting in the way.
Number of hours actually working on the boat, I would guess about 50-60, because the epoxy takes time to cure, set, etc so you find yourself doing 30-40 mins work and then waiting 8 hours to do the next bit. It p!sses off the wife when you get up at 1am to go and put another coat of epoxy on the hull ::)
The hairdryer is a £150 electric boat motor. I have modified the plans for it to have 2 watertight battery compartments which can hold 2 leisure batteries each giving me about 5-8 hours of continuous power. So when under sail I can go a whole weekend without having to recharge. It has a fishfinder, electric and manual bilge pumps and the all important compass.
Next weekend its the sail test :y

Ahoy there Cap`n! ;)
Smashing looking boat; a real credit to your labours. :y
What`s it`s max speed with that neat little 'trolling' motor?

Cheers Debs, your compliment is important to me due to your background. I hope you can actually see it at some point to really see the work that went in.
I reckon about 4-5 knots but my gps will confirm it next week. The motor was so big I had to cut the shaft down quite a bit.
It's the sail test I am really looking forward to, just finished making the sails yesterday :y

Nice one seaman guffer ::)
Better hide it away on November 5th I know what the locals are like aound your neck of the woods, nearly as bad as Stokies ;D

I`d really look forward to checking her out; `remember, locally we have the lovely fishing lake of (Llyn Brenig) to try her out on. :)

Would be a good chance to show the wife Wales which is quite important considering her maiden name is Evans (the only one in Hawaii ;D ;D)

Don't get too close to wales, Guffer. It's only a small boat and they are bloody big fish ::) ::)
(ok, ok -- I know they are mammals, and that they are whales, not wales --- but that kinda sucks the already weak humour out of it :P )

Well done there Captain Guffer!! 8-) 8-) 8-) :y :y
-
;D no jokes about roger the cabin boy and seaman staines?
-
With your paticular talent, what do you need sails for?
To quote from the good ship venus:
When the wind wouldn't blow
And the ship wouldn't go
They called Carter the Farter to start her.
:y ;D
