Post by: Jimbob on 21 September 2009, 15:20:05
Im not normally one for these green issues.....but this one has caught my attention for some reason.

Tomorrow, 22nd Sept, is international Car Free day.

I have decided to take part, and will use a different method of transport, and will leave my car at marks home  ::)

I think you should all follow suit.

Find me someone who will carry the tools, ladders, reels of cable, and all the other crap for £5 for the day and I'll quite happily join the cause.

Got a car free day in York too.

Looking forward to the traffic free roads, should be able to get a parking spot straight away too....

Does anyone else think this event is a total waste of time and money?

What really annoys me is there is no such thing as International Car Free Day. It is not on the statute books of any country, it is not an official day It is merely something dreamed up by a green pressure group, don't know which one, but don't care frankly. Anyone can dream up something like that.

Absolute cobblers.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I should add partly because work are looking for a 'volunteer' to go to Derby, and works own documents suggest a motorbike is unsuitable form of transport (hence no mileage paid), therefore I can't go ::)

In Brackley, we're knackered.  I checked for a local bus service to Bicester and back again (Bicester is 2nd nearest train station - the nearest is a platform in a field, and trains don't often stop southbound).  The local bus service to Bicester runs once a week, starts in Bicester, takes 1hr to get to Brackley, turns round, and returns to Bicester 1hr later. Thats it. So its useless.  Bicester people can't come to Brackley, as next bus is a week later, Brackley people can't go to Bicester, for same reason.

So, whatever the greenies say, I NEED a friggin car. Live with it, and go back to tree hugging

If the bus picks me up from my house when I want it, then ferries me around where I want to go, then I'd use it, but, sorry, until then it's the car every day  :y :y

If we still had both main line train routes, it would be a different story.  :'(

Chiltern do say in their long term plans are to re-build the link to Derby, going through Brackley, but thats decades away from just being in the planning stage.  :(

When they supply public transport, at convenient times, to us in the sticks then I'll use it ::) ::)

At the moment there's 4 buses/day, and they don't run early enough to get to where I need t go :( :(

imagine no one was allowed to use the car for 1 day a year? Tesco's lying empty up and down the land, offices closed, businesses losing money, empty arenas, empty theatres, empty restaurants, empty shopping centres. Imagine no doctors or nurses in hospitals, no teachers in schools, no posties to deliver the mail. Banks shut, commerce grinds to a halt, factories fall silent,..civilisation would cease for 24hrs - it would be mad  :o

Now I think the best way of getting back at these loons would be to actually all agree not to take the car anywhere for 1 day - the damage this would cause would shut them up for good  ;D

it'd be like a huge international strike and no one would ever listen to the anti-car tree-huggers ever again  ;)

sometimes i amaze even myself  :y
