My petrol estate failed Mot months ago and I have been trailing through the list of faults and cautions. ::) As my diesel is still playing up, I thought I would take petrol back in for another test. I had done everything except the front light that would not adjust, got replacement via fleabay but was damaged in transit so never touched the one one the car. I went in knowing that it would fail but hoped that the power steering problem was now fixed. So when he said failed I said I know front light, he said No corriding body work :-/ :-/ No mention of headlamp, no mention of any cautionaries, there were loads 4 months ago just failed on 2 holes in body. That issue was not mentioned even as a caution last time. So how does this whole system work :( :( :( :(

would be VERY interesting to take the car to a dozen or so different MOT's and compare the results!

Testers opinion.

Some testers are more fussy than others.I only found out today you don't have to be a trained(time served)mechanic these days to be a tester and the untrained mechanic testers fail more cars each week because they don't understand there can be some movement and play in cars.So a 17 years old who can't drive, doesn't know squawt about cars can test your car now

In the old days it was possible fro eg Trading Standards to take a car to umpteen garages for an MOT and compare the results. I would think that the new so called improved all singing all dancing computerised system will now prevent that from happening.

Mot tests are strange to say the least The test centre i use is great but hates classic cars. Happy to pass the Beastie with no cats but advised rust on the Cortina which we could'nt find. Turned out to be flaking schultz or underseal. Passed it but said he hated classic cars. 3 days later i sold the 'Tina to a Cortina chairman member who'se an MOT tester. He tried really hard to find any rot in the usual places to knock me down. gave up & paid the asking price. Next day he e mailed me to say he could'nt believe how solid it is.
Wish i'd kept it now but you never know with MOT'S. ::)

I was thinking that, how stupid am I ::) I went covered in oil from rewiring the diesel, baggy jacket and work boots. Im sure if Id dressed in something a little more ;) and leant over into the engine and gave him a glance of my tattoo he wouldnt have mentioned by little rust spot ;D if it wasnt £54 I would try again at another garage ;D ;D ;D

The computer doesn't stop anything, all it does is measure the CO level and sends details of the car being tested (details which are entered by a human) to DVLA.

The whole VOSA computerised MOT system, not just the emmision tester! :-? If one MOT tester enters details on the system, then it will be there for all the world to see. If you put your car's details in, it will show what advisories or reasons for fail your car has has since the introduction of the computerised VOSA system! So it would be difficult for Trading Standards to explain why it was the 10th time in 2 days a particular car had been entered for MOT!
:-? :-? :-? :-?
Do try not to find an argument in everything people post! :-X

Do you really think that if VOSA were out there in a "bait" car, that they wouldn't have the sense to create the MOT "history" before they take it in?
