Haven't been to a local company that used to do chroming & dechroming for about a year now.
found out they had moved further down the road in a bigger posher flasher place, so went down and got to the reception, and they're a sign on the door before you even get through the door - We don't meet anyone at the reception unless you have a prior appointment, we won't deal with rep's, we don't deal with cold callers..... blah blah.
Anyhow next day I call and I now get a list of press 1 to talk to.... 2 to.. etc etc. Got through to the person I wanted to speak to, then it cuts to an answer phone.
Week later phone again, and another message this time that the chaps away for x2 weeks on holiday >:( .
x2 weeks later phone again, get through to the chap, and told that they don't have the facilities to take old chrome off items because it's difficult to get the zinc plating off properly ??.
Funny, as before they moved into this posh place, you would walk through the door, a worker would talk to you, say yeah no problem, come back couple of days. And de-chroming wasn't an issue then.
Got a feeling that now their in a bigger posher place they don't want to know deal with smaller jobs now.
They seem to forget that it's people like me that kept them in business before, and peeing on the on little guy now they've made it !.
So now I'm trying to find another local company that is more friendly in helping out. :-/

when you start a new business you accept any and everybody and any job you can do. Then it goes either 1; as you get more established you get fussy and selective, pick and choose your cutomers, loose customer service and become greedy or 2;you earn just enough money to keep the business going and you do your up most to keep your regulars happy and hope your new cients dont find out that they have to pay alot more than the original ones ;) so if any of my clients find out my original faithfuls are paying £5 a night insted of the £25 Im going to get in trouble ;D ;D ;D ;D hope none of them drive Omega's :D :D :D :D

Disagree with you Ali :-?
In business you can't afford to be selective, that's what gets you into trouble business wise, you start to say no to people, word gets around that you can't be bothered, next thing you know you're wondering why you're not getting customer interest ?.
On another side of business. It seems to me that are also a lot of companies that are going bust these days that are using the 'Credit Crunch' as an excuse to why their having to lay people off, and making cuts in their workload. Not every company is going down the tube due to finance problems, there's also a fair amount of companies that have bad management issues, which is another story / thread !!.
The Chroming company I did use have been going for years, starting off with the owner and x4 others doing everything, then to a bigger building, then bigger unit, etc, etc. But now they're not interested, which I can't undersand, as I'd of thought every bit of custom they do, could lead to another job and work coming their way ?. Oh well... change of plan then :-/

In my experience in business looking after your regular customers is paramount. They are the "bread and butter" of any business, also they are the most likely to sing your praises and generate new work.
